    INTRODUCTION

What an exciting day to be alive in the Lord! In the following pages we would like to simply share with you the wonderful teachings that God has taught us over the course of many years. This is by no means an exhaustive study but rather a practical application on seeking more of the Lord. The desire to search after the things of God greatly increased after our salvation experience. That desire grew into hunger for more of His presence. The obstacle that we once faced was how to press in and touch heaven. We knew of people who were living in The River and they could not explain how they got there. God would not let our hunger go unnoticed. He brought us into His River. Our hope through this book is to share our experiences, not to give you a formula for there is not one.

Jesus came so that we could have life and life more abundantly. Jesus brings life. When we allow ourselves to be plugged into His River we have life. Are you tired of standing on the river shore? Do you truly desire to move into the river and experience the currents of life? Attitudes change, compassion grows, and heaven comes down and touches the earth. Allow yourself to visualize outside of the box. We enter into the presence of God in our churches and we can also enter into his presence in our homes.

Flowing in the river is not to be confined within the church walls. We can live in the river as we drive in our car, work at our jobs, and spend time with our families. Living in the river must become a lifestyle.

God looks into our heart and when he sees us running after him at all costs he will not leave his people high and dry. In fact, he allows us to experience his glory. We have the awesome privilege of moving from glory to glory. Hallelujah!

We are living in a new season of the Lord. People of God are hungering for more of his presence than ever before. The body of Christ desires to receive a refreshing from the river of God. This seems to be a phrase resonating throughout churches that we minister in. Those who seek after God with all of their heart will find him. The scriptures reaffirm this promise of the Lord.

Many men and women of the Bible searched for a touch from the Lord. These desperate individuals ran after him, followed him around, and shouted out to him when they physically could not reach him. The compassion of Jesus would reach out to them all. Should we run after Jesus with a desperate heart that burns for him? YES! Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

I am sure that you would agree that when we love someone we desire to spend as much time with that person as possible. We share our thoughts, feelings, hopes, and dreams. This same principle applies to our relationship with the Lord. He delights in his people sharing their daily life with him. Just as we devote our time and attention to our loved ones so we should dedicate love and devotion to our beautiful Lord. He is worthy of all our praise.

In the following chapters you will uncover the various circumstances that have allowed us to begin our journey into a river that flows from heaven. This river brings refreshing for all that hunger and thirst. As you begin your search for more of the presence of the Lord he will reveal himself to you.

Open your heart and mind and allow the river of God to flow through you. Come with us as we study the very people that sought after the Lord and found him. Their lives would be changed forever after their encounter with the Lord. Catch the gaze of Jesus and you will never be the same.

    CHAPTER 1

    STEP INTO THE RIVER

    By: Melanie

Many years ago the Lord gently spoke to me, Do you want to live in my river? I replied, Yes, of course I do. Once again I heard the Lord say to me, What are you willing to do about it? These two questions would change the course of my life forever. I heard about the river, read about the river, and was even singing about it. Did I really know how to live in the river?

My heart began to burn for the closeness of a deeper relationship with the Lord. For many days and nights I continuously replayed in my mind the words the Lord had spoken. Why would the Lord ask me if I wanted to live in the river? He knew my love for him was immeasurable.

I began to seek him, quietly waiting before the Lord. During this time the Holy Spirit revealed to me that these questions were not for his benefit, they were for mine. At that very moment I felt honored that God would look upon me with compassion and grace, desiring a closer, intimate relationship with of all people me. I rejoiced before the

    Lord for his unending love.

I must admit, the first question was easy to answer. The second question really had me puzzled. What was I willing to do? I thought within the limitations of my human mind that I was doing everything expected of a believer. This just goes to show us that his ways are not our ways. Thank goodness! I fell to my knees and asked the Lord to show me how to live in his river.

Over the course of the next several months I felt as though a new anticipation was dropped within me. In the past I had heard of men and women of God speaking of a time when it felt as though something new dropped into their spirit. I never understood until the day that I finally experienced it for myself. There was a new, fresh, excitement that flooded my heart.

This new found joy sent me pacing the floor. I absolutely did not know what God was doing or when he was going to do it, but I was excited. The Lord began placing me in services where his river was flowing. During this time he immersed me in his presence allowing me to continue in the river at home.

My family began to play worship music continuously in our home and the atmosphere of our home changed. I began to set aside a time daily to worship the Lord in private. This became a very special time between the Lord and I. Day after day I found myself in anticipation of the worship that I would offer up to the Lord. I could not wait to run into the arms of Jesus through my offering of praise. We invited the Holy Spirit into our home to have free reign. The Lord delights in the praises of his people when we set aside time to fellowship with him.

Take a moment to think about the characteristics of a river. What comes to mind? Possibly you see a calm slow movement with areas consisting of gentle waves. Other areas of the river contain swift moving water flowing. No matter what area of the river you see there is one common factor–there is life.
