About this ebook

One day, Kylee and her younger sister, Lexie, are playing in the yard at their Grandmas cottage when they discover a very unusual bush. It sounds like it may be alive; there is a very loud humming sound coming from it. Burning with curiosity, they decide to investigate the bush; they take a pair of scissors from their Grandmas sewing basket early one morning and tell her that they are going to pick some flowers.

Once they cut away part of the bush, they discover a magical creature that looks a little like a bird but is very different indeed. He tells them his name is Gomo, and he is a Gholdee. They meet his friend Vinista, who is invisible at first but then reveals herself to them. They soon find out that the Gholdees fear humans, so they set out to show them that there is nothing to fear.

At the same time as this discovery, their not-so-nice neighbor stops by their home looking for his missing dog, Champ, a big and fluffy St. Bernard. Is Champ really Mr. Snivelys dog? Will the Gholdees become their friends? Come along and see on a magical adventure with Kylee and Lexie.

Once upon a time, there were two little girls that lived in a cottage deep in the woods. These little girls were sisters. One was named Kylee, and the other was named Alexis, but everyone called her Lexie. Kylee was 11 years old, and Lexie was 9 years old. They lived in this cottage with their Mother and Grandmother.

Everyday, the girls would go to their favorite spot about one-half mile from home. This spot had a large tree with lots of long branches to climb on, lots of soft green grass to go barefooted on, and a small brook that ran close by. On the backside of the tree was a dense thicket that you couldn’t see beyond.

One day, the girls were playing in the tree when they heard a funny sound. They stopped to listen. After a few seconds, they heard it again. It was coming from the thicket. But what could possibly be in there? Kylee wanted to go see what it was, but Lexie was scared. It’ll be okay. Come with me, said Kylee. The two girls climbed quietly down from the tree. They walked slowly back and forth in front of the thicket to see if there may be an area that was clearer, so they could see what was back there. They walked a short distance to the south of their favorite tree, and they discovered that there was a hill beyond the thicket. The sisters had never noticed this hill before. The thicket seemed to not be as heavy here, also. Kylee started to reach into the thicket when Lexie grabbed her hand and said, No, you don’t know what’s in there, Kylee. You may get your hand bitten off! Kylee pulled her hand back and said, You’re right. It’s getting late so we better get home before Mom and Grandma get worried. We’ll come back tomorrow and look some more. Lexie was relieved to hear her say that. She was more than ready to leave this place today. It seemed creepy for some reason. The girls gathered their shoes and ran home.

When the girls arrived home, Mom had a wonderful meal prepared. Go wash your hands and sit at the table, said Grandma. I made your favorite! said Mom. Oh it looked good, too. The girls didn’t realize how hungry they were. It smells great, Mom, said Lexie. Let’s eat, said Grandma.

After supper, Kylee and Lexie helped by clearing the table, cleaning the dishes, and putting them away. Kylee was really excited about getting an early start and going back to the thicket. She is wanting to see what is beyond the brush making that strange noise. We will take a pair of Grandma’s sewing scissors in the morning when we go. Maybe it will cut through some of the thicket, said Kylee. What if Grandma sees us? Won’t she be mad? asked Lexie. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it, said Kylee.

The next morning before sun up, Kylee slipped into Grandma’s room and looked into her sewing basket. There were 3 pair of sewing scissors in there. She took one pair and trusted that Grandma wouldn’t miss them, at least not for a while. Grandma stated that she was going to do some gardening today so Kylee knew that Grandma wouldn’t notice the scissors gone right away., They would be put back in plenty of time.

The girls got dressed and headed to the kitchen for breakfast. Kylee put the scissors in the back of her shorts to hide them. It was a simple breakfast today, but Mom was very good at making biscuits and gravy. Delicious! Kylee and Lexie ate well and hurried to the door. They were anxious to get over to the thicket. Grandma asked, Where are you going? Lexie replied, To, uh, pick some flowers, Grandma. We’ll be back later. Pick some pretty ones and be careful, said Mom. We will, said Kylee.

The girls ran as fast as they could to their favorite spot. When they got close they slowed, and then stopped behind a tree. They could see their climbing tree across the clearing and the thicket behind it. The girls crept across the grassy area without a sound. They came to the thicket behind the climbing tree. The girls listened for any sound, any sound at all. After a
