    BIBLIOGRAPHY

    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to my parents

Deacon and Mrs. John Frank (Louise Barnes) Smith

who instilled within me from a child the importance of loving and obeying God. They taught me the significance of love and family. Without their nurturing and tender care from the beginning, I would not be who and where I am this moment.

To my late Father & Mother-in-Law

Deacon and Mother Lenlie (Lela Russell) Benton

who were an inspiration to me and who endeavored to

teach me about the early members and the beginnings of the

Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ.

It is also dedicated to my loving wife, Doris my typist, my sounding board and my partner in life. She has been there for me since we met over forty years ago. I never knew when we met at Carver Heights Junior High School that we would share a lifetime of joy and happiness. I am blessed and thankful that we are one in Christ Jesus.

To my daughter, Damesha, I dedicate this book to you because you

are so special. I am so happy that God gave you to us as our wonderful daughter. You have proven to be the young lady that we are so

proud of and pray that God will continue to do His Mighty Work

    with you and through you…

In memory of our first born –

    Marissa Davon Smith ~ August 17, 1977

To my Late Grandparents for their wisdom and guidance and my extended family, Dan, Contina, Erika and Devon. I love you all.

To the Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ

    and to all Disciples everywhere…

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20
