    Wise Old Woman

    Yet I Smile

This book is long overdue. Yet, it’s time to share God’s Blessings with others. My life has been happy, sad, disappointing, disrespectful and most of all Blessed to its fullest by God, as I share my poetry.

If it had not been for the Lord on my side, these words would not have been poured into my Spirit to write it, say it and pour it out of me to share with you all.

At times, I didn’t know how to explain or expressed it myself. Yet, through my pains, my up and downs I made it with the Grace of God.

To my family, my friends and those I don’t know, just remember I’m blessed by God Almighty himself, that’s why I can share it all with you and know, you will know it was not in vain.

    70 Year Old Chicks

Lady, Lady, with your silver white hair

    That glows in the night

While you sit by the Light!

As the moon shimmer lightly upon you!

Yet, I see the twinkle in your eyes

As the wisdom traveled by slowly, slowly

You stood the test of time gracefully

    Like the Lady you are

    Yet, you stood up,

    Never, ever giving up

Yet, the deep river you swam ashore

    Never, ever giving up

Always looking up hand in hand

The pain, the hurt, the trust

The tears, the births, the joy, the happiness

Yet, in the sorrow of yester years

    Buried deep in the grave

The loss, our loss again together.

We stood the test of time

Our mother, our brother, our children

Yet, God smiles down, down, down

All the way down and the light

From above pouring everlasting Blessing on you

    My mother!

My friend, my aunt, my friend

    Queen Irene

    Queen Pauline

    I crown you

As I salute you openly and proudly to all

For you are 70 years old

    And what’s really going on

    Much love

    I Love You

    I Love You

    I Love You.

    * * *

    277

The building in the middle of the block

    Where I use to live

    A walk up

I climb the stairs four to five times a day

    Maybe more

    The floors were cracked,

    And the stairs where dirty

    Most of the time

Spit on the hand rail and on my hands

    Why complain?

My grandmother walked up those stairs with bags

    In her hands for years

Walking up to the 5th floor

    And didn’t complain

Rest between the floors each and everyday

Made it to the top and drop her bags

    Took a deep breath

    Washed her hands

Took out those heavy cast iron pans

Made something good to eat for her family

    Sat down

    Drop her head

    For those eyes lids were

    Wanting to rest

    Ate her dinner

    Ironed her clothes.

277 the building, where I use to live

    Something is going on there

    Each and every night,

    Yelling, cussing, swearing, and drinking

    In that hallway

Drugs, sex I’m sure is going on

A few over doses in my life time,

    Their babies crying, people dying

Broken bottle glass on the stairs

    Better watch yourself

    Before you fall

    Lying Landlord

    Non fixer upper

Big rats the size of a cat!

    No hot water, No steam,

    In the building 277

    Where I use to live

    On my way to school,

I had to go down those stairs,

    Passing somebody

Excuse me they would say, moving aside

    And letting me by

Nothing but the best of ladies lived in 277.

There was Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Savage

And Ms. Anderson on the 5th floor

Mrs. Hammond and Mrs. Hamilton on the 4th floor

Mrs. Washington on the 3rd floor

And Mrs. Ada Savage, Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Alice on the 2nd floor

And Mrs. Alice and Mrs. Baby Sister on the 1st floor

    All those strong women

    Holding their own weight

    Minding their business

Passing one another in the hallway

    In that building 277

    Where I use to live

The building in the middle of the block

    277 on 118th street.

    Still standing strong

There are a lot of stories

In that place I walk by

    And give it a smile

    And a high five

That’s the building where I use to live

    I love that building 277

My grandmother and mother lived there

So did my brothers and sisters

    Uncles and aunts.

The best place I ever lived, ask anybody

    I’ll never forget it
