    Introduction

You are not alone! You are not the only one who faces the many challenges that prevent people from being healthy; those issues that arise when it comes time to exercise because you feel obligated and not necessarily empowered. The intent of this book is just that, to empower and motivate you to achieve your goals and live a better, healthier lifestyle.

Let me ask you a few quick questions: 1. Do you think you’d be more health conscience if only your life wasn’t so hectic or if your schedule wasn’t so busy? 2. Do you find yourself getting comfortable at home and not wanting to get up and do some exercise? 3. Have you ever decided to start working out then given up because you felt you didn’t know exactly what to do? My thought is that you’ve answered yes to either one or all of these questions. The good thing about your answer is that all of these issues and more, will be addressed and hopefully you’ll be ready to move past them by the time you’re finished reading.

Again, you are not alone. We all face the same issues. The difference between those of us who aren’t reaching our goals and those of us who are; is not particularly because they have more free time or because it’s required of their profession, they achieve it because they choose to set priorities and make things happen. It may be a tough thing to accept but there’s only one viable reason why you don’t meet your goals…you choose not to [insert shrug]. In most cases – I’ve found – people are not ready to make the adjustment, or lifestyle change that will enable them get to the next level. That’s really the bottom line. People attempt to justify why they’re not working out, beginning an exercise routine, or finding ways to eat healthier by calling them reasons, in the end they are all just excuses.

There are all types of excuses out there – some even seemingly justifiable – but they all can be conquered. At times people convert these excuses into justifiable reasons, to make them feel OK about not getting started. I’ve seen people who desire to have a flashy car, live a glamorous lifestyle and keep up with the latest fashions. The funny thing is; these same people would never think to divert at least some of that time, energy, and money towards their own health. Since when did your health become last on the list of priorities? Yes, it’s nice to have and want all these other things, but at what price are you willing to get them? Is it worth risking your own health for family or friends to praise you? Maybe these people should consider the old saying your health is your wealth because without good health, it would be hard to enjoy your wealth or even obtain it.

Through many conversations and interviews with different types of people, I’ve realized that the major cause of failure to attain goals is fear. Fear is almost always linked to an individual’s excuse in one way or another. It could be a fear of not achieving your goal. Maybe you truly believe that your job has to be the number one priority in your life. OK here’s what you probably haven’t considered; if you neglect your health for too long you may end up with an issue that will keep you out of work, AND, if you don’t go to work you may lose your job…but this is what you were trying to avoid by putting your employment first…wasn’t it? So are you really making the right choice? Think about it hard.

It constantly amazes me how people so easily put their health on hold, or how they just can’t seem to make living an overall healthier life part of their priorities. Why is decreasing the risk of serious health issues such as heart attack or diabetes, not important enough for people to make time to exercise or eat healthier food? What would you do if you went to the doctor and were told that you only have a few months left to live due to lack of health maintenance? What if he said if you don’t make some immediate changes, which include regular exercise and better eating habits, your time will be limited to a few months? What would you do at that point? I’m sure that most people would begin to see their reasons as nothing more than excuses. They’d begin to make the changes necessary to prevent the unwanted outcome. BUT, is it really necessary to be within inches of the worst possible outcome before deciding to make change? The reality is; you
