Pastor Roger A. Hicks

Roger Andrew Hicks was a pastor for 24 years. Almost 20 of those years were at a church in Marshfield, Missouri.  He grew up on a farm in Niangua, Missouri.  He married Sarah J. Haviland on January 17, 1981.  They had 5 children.  Roger was a Southern Baptist minister that became enlightened to the fact that there is "more" of God than most religions allow you to encounter.  Roger was known for having spur of the moment ideas and God used him through that.  The church secretary, Dana Burris, at the time of most of these writings tells it like this: "Dana, I was minding my own business last night when the Lord told me to write a devotion book and He wants you to help me. I immediately knew we were in for a lot of hard work.  Pastor Roger worked diligently on this project and wasn't real particular what he used to dictate his thoughts down on.... Tragically, before the book was finished, Pastor Roger was killed in a farming accident. ...As you read these pages, I know you will be blessed, refreshed and encouraged. My life was deeply enriched by his pastoring and his amazing understanding of the Scriptures."  Roger never met a stanger and was well known throughout his ministry.  His passion for people and to see them have a greater relationship with our Savior was evident in his life.  May you be blessed and refreshed as you read this book of inspiring wisdom penned by a great man of God. Completed in memory of a pastor, friend and my husband. Blessings on you, Sarah J. Hicks

A Fresh Page - Pastor Roger A. Hicks

    Psalm 118:24

"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

    But it’s a new day!

You have been looking for a fresh start. Today is the day! Determine that today is a new beginning for you. You cannot go back and undo yesterday’s maze of difficulties, nor can the best of planning solve tomorrow’s mysteries. All that you have is now. Determine to capitalize upon it.

Many want to go through life looking in their rear view mirror and many are looking through a telescope searching for their tomorrows, but few are living with the now. This is the only day that you have. Yesterday is spent, time you will never be able to bring back. Tomorrow will always be escaping our grasp.

Determine without delay that today, you will rejoice and be glad in this day. As you face this day, don’t be robbed for another moment of looking to your past or future at the expense of today.

It is a decision that you have to make before the Lord. Your day is filled, as it is, with joy. Anything short of joy is a thief.

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10

May your day be a day full of wonder as you allow the Holy Spirit to set you free to live in the now and to be victorious over the devil who wants to be the thief of stealing your joy.

    I Kings 17:4

… I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

The miraculous hand of God hinges upon obedience. If you desire to see the power of God displayed in your life, it is an absolute that you walk in obedience.

Two things were necessary for God to provide in the drought of the land. First of all, the raven had to obey. Then Elijah had to go to the place where God told him to go.

Go where God wants you to go. Then He’s left to feed you. If you don’t obey in being where He wants you, the ravens and your catered meal will show up, but you’ll miss their blessing. All of nature works in obedience, in perfect harmony with the Creator. It’s now up to man to walk in agreement.

Go on and do what He says.

Go on and go where He sends.

Go on and speak what He speaks.

My friend, don’t be one of those who labors in Gilead when God has His miraculous catering service waiting for you at the brook of Cherith.

It’s when you get where God sends you that you experience the fullness of His blessings. He delights in providing for you, but He chooses to provide for you so that He alone receives the praise.

Be as obedient as the ravens today. Go where He sends!

    Deuteronomy 32:30-31

How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight …

You’re not to be sitting idly by attempting to maintain the things of God in your life. You have been called and equipped to put the enemy to flight in your life. As a child of God, conquering enemy soil is a part of your life. The enemy comes like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, but you are suited to go and spoil his goods and ransack his wares!

Today as you walk in agreement with the Lord, you will put the enemy to flight. He doesn’t merely retreat when he is attacked through the power of God, but he flees! Pursue your enemy until he has been destroyed. He will not respond to mere threats. He only understands winner takes all.

Power and strength are increased as others come along side of you and walk in agreement with you. Hear the words of Him to whom all authority in Heaven and Earth was given. If any two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing, it shall be done. (Matthew 18:19)

If you do not have someone to come along with you and agree with you in prayer, then ask God to reveal someone who will be your prayer partner today! Then watch as God puts your enemies to flight!

    Revelation 1:8

I am Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the ending, says the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Jim Elliott said, Every man should live as though all he has to do when it comes time to die is to die.

    1. To the ones held in the clutches of the Egyptian taskmaster of sin, He is the One who says, I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians.

    2. To those who hunger for their food for the soul, He is the manna that comes down from heaven and He is the one that proclaims, I am the Bread of Life.

    3. To the woman who comes to the well of life hoping that this time, hope will be found. He is the fountain of Living water which you drink from never to thirst again.

    4. To the young person who is sorting through trying to find direction for his life, and his life is filled with winding paths which seem to go no where. He says, I am the Way.

    5. To the hurting and broken hearted, I am the Lord that healeth thee.

    6. To the cold, He’s the fire by night.

    7. To those who are scorched with the burning heat of their day, He is a cloud by day.

    8. To the lonely He says, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.

    9. To those who have been bitten by the sting of death, He stands upon the rolled away rock with the keys of death and hell and declares, I am the Resurrection.

    10. He’s the Eternal One seated above the circumference of the Earth.

    11. When the waves are lapping against your boat and about to take you under, remember the Water Walker is coming your way!

    12. When your soul has grown thirsty, remember, He’s the Rock of which water comes gushing from!

    Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

There is a growing confidence in our lives as we pursue the finish line that God’s will is going to be accomplished in our life. Sometimes we would be inclined to think the winds of adversity will turn our ship upside down and we will never make it to shore. Be confident my friend. Keep your eyes on the Captain and you will make it. You will not only survive, but you will
