This book is dedicated to you. You are dissatisfied with your way of life as it relates to your relationship with God. This discontentment is God’s way of knocking at your door; He desires intimacy with you. He says, Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me (Rev. 3:20 NIV).

This book is inspired by and contains four sermons preached by Evangelist Michele Gayle at the Agincourt Church of God’s Annual Ladies Ministry Convention in April 2009. These sermons became part of a series titled Living God’s Presence This series has served to challenge and inspire people to become God-chasers—people who are hungry for God, are deliberate in their walks with God, and are daily living lives that please God. I pray and trust that this series will still convey the message of God as intended to the hearts and lives of His people.

    Introduction

    SKU-000426167_TEXT.pdf

There is a fascinating man in the Old Testament—Enoch, by name. Throughout the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, there is very little written about him, except a few references. Yet, what is written concerning this man Enoch is so very significant, so very great, and so very inspirational. Beginning in Genesis 5:24 the Bible states Enoch walked with God and was not.

I find this statement to be gripping. It does not just leave the mind; no, it compels consideration. The compelling elements to this statement are the words walked with God. So I needed to ask myself why these three words have so great an effect on me. I answered most honestly—that I truly do not fully embrace the possibility of a real, tangible, intimate relationship with God. Most people don’t. Although we have the knowledge of God’s condescending love for humanity and His complete willingness to be in communion with mankind. Yet we see God as so far removed and tiresome efforts must be made to persuade His attention.

Having read the scripture, in each of our minds is the picture of Enoch and God taking a stroll or a long journey together. It is not quick, hurried steps—there is no rush! Only very deliberate and timely steps are taken as they, God and man, converse. This is the picture that comes to mind. But we do not readily accept it as possible.

In this passage, the word walk is used to denote a life lived in agreement or harmony. Enoch was in agreement with God, because his way of living was harmonious with God—he obeyed God. Following is the definition of walk according to the Merriam-Webster Online dictionary: "3 a: to pursue a course of action or way of life: conduct oneself: behave <walk warily> b: to be or act in association: continue in union …" According to Genesis 5:24, at the very least, Enoch lived three hundred years of his life in harmony and in complete agreement with God.

Another reference concerning Enoch is from Hebrews chapter 11 and verse 5, which says, "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God." His choosing to live a life that was in harmony with God pleased God so very much that He took him out of planet earth to live with Him in Heaven. How very amazing! This should really serve to challenge us to make the necessary adjustments in our own lives so that we may also have this testimony and be able to say that we "pleased God."

This is what I am really intending. God’s plan and purpose is to bring us into agreement and harmony with Him. That we may as Enoch, live lives that God will be well pleased with.

Daily Living God’s Presence is the practice or discipline of cultivating and maintaining the presence of God. I pray that every one of you will be challenged, as I have been, to a greater relationship with Jehovah.

God Jehovah wants to be with us. Our heavenly Father has always desired a relationship with us. The disobedience, or sin, of Adam and Eve caused separation between God and man. From that point, fellowship between God and man was changed from what God originally intended, because sin separates from God. However, God still desires a relationship with us. But there must be a remedy—a permanent remedy—to the problem of sin’s separation. That remedy is Jesus Christ: He became sin, who knew no sin, that we may be the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

So now, whosoever may come! Whosoever is willing can partake of a personal and abiding relationship with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. John’s Gospel records the Lord Jesus as saying, "If any one loves me, he will keep my word; and My Father will Love him and We will come to him and make our home with him" (John 14:23). I want God to make His home in my life. I want for Him to live in my home with me. Not only that, but I also want Him to take me to His home where I will live with Him through all eternity!

What I am talking about is an active relationship with God where God is present in all the details of our lives. And that means every aspect of our lives—in our joys, our sorrows, our worship, our praise, our works, and services, our words and deeds, our famine, our times of increase and prosperity, our sickness and health, and our life and death. It means a life deliberately shared with God—walking with God. We need to be able to confidently trust the ever-abiding and faithful God, even when we cannot see Him, don’t understand what is happening, or things seems out of control.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for this invitation that you have sent me today. I commit to read this book through to the end, and I pray in the name of Jesus, my Lord, that You will reveal Your heart to me. Give me a full understanding of this life in Christ Jesus that You are calling me to. I desire a richer relationship with You; I hunger for more of You! Please make what You are saying through Michele, Your servant, clear to me. May You accomplish Your desired will and purpose in my life. In the name of Jesus
