About this ebook

Number Synchronicity: A Beacon of Light for the Souls Journey stands as a definitive exploration of a phenomenon affecting millions of people around the world. In exploring the inexplicable, it becomes necessary to go beyond the amusement of numerology books that show how to gain insight from numbers in a name or birth date. Plenty of good books for that already exist. Bridging the gap between scientific objectivity and outrageous speculation, Number Synchronicity maintains the middle path. In pursuit of the truth, seemingly separate threads weave the fabric of a new understanding. Abundant facts and convincing evidence equate number synchronicity to a beacon of light in a storm, providing guidance and comfort during times of chaos, transition, and uncertainty.

Author

Skot Jonz

With skills to find things overlooked by others, Skot Jonz has observed number synchronicity since the 1970s while working as an archaeologist. He holds an undergraduate degree in anthropology from the University of Arkansas and a doctorate in metaphysical science from the University of Metaphysics, providing a rare balance between science and spirituality. Skot has presented his findings at International Metaphysical Conventions, and communicates with people around the world regarding their experiences with number synchronicity. Although Skot does not claim to be a numerologist by practice, he is considered a numerologist by experience, as was Pythagoras who noticed the beauty in being in touch with the numerical rhythm and mathematical harmony of the universe.

    Preface

Because of heightened security in public places, it did not surprise me when randomly selected for inspection at an airport security checkpoint. After scanning me from head to toe, the NTSB agent searching my bags seemed alerted. Removing two books, The Math Gene and Pi in the Sky, he continued flipping through my papers and looked at me curiously.

Have you noticed all the events occurring in the news lately with numbers? he asked, while zipping up the first bag and proceeding to the next.

I avoided discussing my disgust with the news and, responding to his question as honestly as possible, simply nodded and said flatly, Oh, yes, I have.

Instinctively, I wanted to engage in further conversation with the inspector and show him exactly how many numbers, but decided against holding up the line. If I appeared as a jetlagged traveler instead of someone who noticed numbers in the news lately, perhaps he would allow me to continue on my way. Not only had I noticed numbers in the news lately, but for longer than I cared to admit. Lately, their appearance seemed to be intensifying and accelerating.

Cleared for boarding, I slipped on my shoes, grabbed my bags, and headed to the gate. The panorama of current events flashed through my head bringing me to the present.

Readers may ask, What relevance or impact could these numbers possibly have on my life?

Exactly the aim of this book: to demonstrate how specific numbers in meaningful situations impact everyone on some level.

Numbers dance upon on the world stage, vibrating the vocal cords of humanity and harmonizing a worldwide mantra. For example, how many times lately have you heard the words nine eleven or fourteen forty one?

With a simple awareness of the ancient science of numerology, we may learn of hidden secrets contained within names and dates. With such knowledge, we may shape the course of our future and can go in many directions. There is a choice, in numbers.

Would you like another relevant example?

Pending the 2004 election, numerological analyses for leading Democratic presidential candidates based upon their campaign names and dates of birth identify the presence of significant numbers. Without endorsing any particular candidate, from a numerological perspective, a superficial analysis identifies who might best serve as the next US president, the 44th. According to numerologists, the number 44 represents a confident leader who knows how to solve problems, or one capable of self-destructive behavior, depending on the level of awareness. See Appendix I for numerological thumbnails of 2004 presidential candidates.

Instead of important elections being determined by a small percentage of voters in a hairline 50/50 split, with voting machine glitches and court decisions, a majority of the population participating in the process can demonstrate the incredible power in numbers. Although poll numbers may influence voter decision, the numbers in a name or birth date may prove more reliable and consistent.

In honor of America’s Masonic Founding Fathers, readers may find this information useful in choosing their leaders, whether now or in years to come, validating the efficacy and applicability of number synchronicity on a national and global scale. For once, perhaps we can agree on something and put the word united back in the United States of America.

Although I have prepared numerological charts for friends, I do not claim to be a professional numerologist. However, I do consider myself a numerologist by experience, as did Pythagoras who noticed a beauty in being in touch with the numerical rhythm and mathematical harmony of the universe.

    Introduction

It was six men of Indostan

    To learning much inclined,

Who went to see the Elephant

(Though all of them were blind),

    That each by observation

    Might satisfy his mind.

And so these men of Indostan

    Disputed loud and long,

    Each in his own opinion

    Exceeding stiff and strong,

Though each was partly in the right,

And all were in the wrong!

    — Excerpt from poem by John Godfrey Saxe

I often feel similar to those blind men from Indostan groping an elephant, with a limited view of something much larger than myself. Anyone claiming to know the complete and final answer to life’s big mysteries such as the origin and dimensions of the universe, where we came from, or how life began might sound misguided and a bit overconfident. The contribution of combined wisdom creates a more complete image of the greater whole.

Since first noticing number synchronicities while working as an archeologist in the 1970s, I possessed the propensity of a scientist to observe, document, and present my findings. With those obligations out of the way, I considered my duty as a scientist complete. Colleagues then informed me of the need to make the information more available to the general public.

To ascertain the extent of number synchronicity, I obtained subjective accounts through distribution of an international survey designed to gather experiential information and beliefs surrounding the phenomenon. Survey responders reported number synchronicity in the context of time and dates, money and receipts, travel, addresses, nature, work, history, and current events. See Appendix II for details of survey results.

Many responders reported first experiences with digital clocks. It does not necessarily seem pertinent that one looks at the clock and sees the time 11:11; after all, it occurs twice a day. Likewise, for a particular event that occurs on the 11th or 22nd of the month. Significance lies in the synchronistic nature, meaning that the outer occurrence coincides with an inner state of mind, or at times of transition, and results in a meaningful connection for the person.

An open-ended solicitation resulted in examples of experiences or beliefs as to the underlying meaning of number synchronicity. Most accounts related how number synchronicity impacts their lives, mostly in a positive manner. Due to the extent and volume of experiences collected, it became impractical to detail all responses. So I provide a healthy, representative sample. See Appendix III for more comments.

    • It’s like a verification. I know everything is going to be all right.

    • I am not a groupie. I have been observing 11:11 occurrences since very young.

    • The precise meaning is somewhat elusive. I don’t claim to understand it intellectually.

    • A Oneness…when it happens, I just stepped back on the trail that my life should be on.

    • Signposts put there by us to remind us to open our eyes to a greater picture.

    • It seems to appear as a ‘Yes’ from the Universe. If I’m personally on track it tends to materialize.

    • This is a time to come into my highest being, a wakeup call.

    • It shows up as Divine revelation, confirmation that I am not alone, on track, on the way home.

    • It is guides (angels) on each side of me, protecting me, guiding me, telling me to keep going.

    • This is a time to come into my highest being, a wake-up call, helps me help the planet evolve into heaven on earth.

    • It has awakened me to communication with guides not a part of this physical reality.

    • …tremendous insight into personal problems, put into motion my spiritual awakening..

    • Seeing it on clocks is irritating. It must mean something.

    • …focus on being with higher family, one with my true self.

    • The 11:11 gives us the timetable and qualifying conditions for the ascension of our solar system, planet Earth and all evolution on planet Earth.

    • No one experience is significant. All of them together have made me more aware of the world around me and have helped me to grow spiritually.

    • A great deal of hope about understanding Oneness and working together as One.

    • It makes me feel more alive, aware, awake.

    • The message is the return home.

    • Too difficult to put into words.

    • Too many experiences to enumerate.

    • The underlying message is to remember.

    • Verification I’m on the right path.

    • It relates to ascension.

    • Love.

Many people express elation upon the discovery that others have similar experiences with number synchronicity. Such discoveries often occur as a result of stumbling upon the information over the Internet. Considering that not all readers access the World Wide Web, Appendix IV presents an overview of Internet resources and websites exploring number synchronicity. Demonstrating the widespread nature of the phenomenon, each resource provides a different viewpoint on the phenomenon, yet offers striking similarities.

During the course of writing this book, people would casually inquire as to the topic. When I replied with number synchronicity reactions varied from a glazed look of confusion to delight and exhilaration. Once explained, it became clear to me that nearly everyone expresses a familiarity with the sensation of synchronicity, even without knowing what to call it: a chance encounter, an unusual dream come true, déjà vu, or premonition. When a series of events in the outer physical world parallels inner thoughts and feelings in meaningful ways, it is referred to as synchronicity.

A dimension of synchronicity similar to the classic variety possesses the added significance of numbers.

People of all ages experience number synchronicity, from diverse cultural and spiritual persuasions, even those not inclined to the metaphysical; some since childhood, others later in life. Considered personally meaningful, these experiences often result in a transformation or awakening of individual consciousness. Number synchronicity stimulates spiritual awakening, growth, and enlightenment. Feelings of love, comfort, and guidance are common; and the experiences remind, verify, and unite. A repetition of common themes include: confirmation, increased awareness, signposts, and a wake-up call.

But, questions remain. Primarily, Why these numbers? and What does it mean? Even more curious, why has mainstream science neglected it? Does it suggest a higher intelligence, a code, message, or beacon? Who sent it? Is it a message we sent to ourselves? Can it be deciphered?

I propose that as more people have these transformative experiences, triggering a shift in consciousness, modern humans may be propelled to another level — physically, spiritually, and otherwise. Continued survival compels humanity to evolve consciously. In doing so, number synchronicity may represent a tool to gauge the direction and rate of evolution along the soul’s journey.

Growing awareness in self-transformation and spirituality has given rise to countless books on spirituality, consciousness, synchronicity, and numerology. However, other than rare exceptions from the 1920s to 1950s, no explicit connection between the separate subjects has been established.

Those risking their professional careers by giving the matter serious attention were Paul Kammerer, a biologist; Carl Jung, a psychologist; and Wolfgang Pauli, a physicist. Keeping meticulous logs of synchronistic events, some involving numbers, each gave the phenomenon a different name yet agreed on the significance and need for further study.

Taking the opposite extreme, examinations of the number synchronicity enigma couched in flowery terminology and dogma make some readers uneasy. Theories incorporating ascension through a series of doorways, our Sun’s dark twin, communication from Sirius, conspiracy, DNA encoding, and UFOs are offered.

Although some people find temporary solace in such ideas, no matter how unbelievable, not all of the millions of people having these experiences are content with such esoteric explanations. The same questions unanswered by scientists remain unanswered.

In exploring the inexplicable, we must go beyond the amusement of numerology books that show how to use numbers to gain insight on love, money, or success with a name or birth date. Plenty of good books for that already exist.

Considering the implications of a consistent and repetitive numerical pattern, Number Synchronicity: A Beacon of Light for the Soul’s Journey stands as a definitive exploration of a unique phenomenon, and bridges the gap between scientific objectivity and outrageous speculation. In pursuit of the truth, seemingly separate threads weave the fabric of a new understanding.

Section I, Knowledge, provides a brief history of numbers and numerology, demonstrating how numbers play a significant role in human lives. Professional and academic numerologists identify master numbers (11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, and 99) as more significant than the zero through nine numbers, because of their unique double vibration. Explorations of coincidence and synchronicity, and the latest research into consciousness provide the remaining sides of a connecting framework.

Through my research, it became evident that people report synchronistic appearances of all master numbers, in addition to combinations such as 11:11, 12:12, 38:38, and 13:13. These numbers are as meaningful and significant to the persons experiencing them as any other numbers. Many people have reported a particular affinity for 23 or 53, and others have reported a similar propensity for noticing triple digit numbers such as 111, 222, 333, and sequences of numbers such as 1234. There seems to be no limit to the numbers involved in a synchronistic context, considered meaningful to the person having the experience.

After noticing master numbers due to their persistent and repetitious nature, and learning of their significance among numerology professionals, I began documenting their occurrence synchronistic or not. The habits of a scientist die hard. The collection grew and, more than twenty years later, distinct categories emerged.

Do Harry Potter and Saddam Hussein have anything in common? How about Ariel Sharon and Yasser Arafat? Can you think of any connection between sunspot cycles, sodium atoms, and human spinal columns? Do the zodiac, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Stealth Fighter share any similarities? The answer is a resounding yes to all of these and more seemingly absurd associations. Dialing phone numbers and diamonds may seem as different as night and day; Soviet time zones and Liberace’s dogs as unrelated as the Iditarod dogsled race and slot machines. Pi and pianos, the Hearst Mansion and Hinduism; George W. Bush and the 2004 Democratic presidential candidates; the unlikely relationships are endless, sharing a common characteristic of master number significance.

Section II, Information, presents nearly a thousand familiar facts assembled in categories of nature, world religions, space exploration, sports, entertainment, trivia, and history. The trail of numbers indicates that certain numbers appear at conspicuous times and places, since the beginning of time and before recorded history, independent of human influence. Readers arrive at their own understanding based on the abundance of facts and evidence.

As a writer equating number synchronicity to a beacon of light for the soul’s journey, it became necessary to bare my own soul. Section III, Manifestation, presents the chronological progression and ubiquity of number synchronicity as manifested in my journey. Déjà vu dreams come true, presidential premonitions, mystical experiences at Machu Picchu, a mysterious stranger from the past, a blessing by the Dalai Lama and other true adventures interspersed with relevant world events through the year 2003.

An episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation entitled Cause and Effect illustrates the concept of recognizing synchronistic occurrences, especially those involving numbers, as a form of communication to enhance survival while on a journey or during times of chaos. The story begins with the Starship Enterprise exploding.

The next scene shows four characters involved in a poker game. Following a series of events the ship encounters an unusual distortion in the time-space continuum. Another ship emerges from the distortion and collides with the Enterprise which spins out of control and explodes.

The action resumes at the poker table where the players are dealt the same cards as in the previous game. A brief hint of familiarity; subsequent events repeat; and once again the ship spins out of control and explodes. Each time, before the ship explodes, a flurry of confusion develops while various options are considered. In their indecision, the right course of action is never taken.

The card game repeats. This time, awareness comes sooner and the players predict the events about to occur, including which cards dealt to each player. The crew refers to this as déjà vu, premonition, and a sense of repetition, and express frustration and a sense of impending doom. After analyzing the situation, the crew realizes that the ship may have entered a temporal causality loop resulting in a repetition of the same fragment of time.

If what they learn each time around becomes forgotten, perhaps sending a simple message into the next loop might help. But how would the message be recognized? Data, the one artificial intelligence member of the crew, suggests that it would resonate to his positronic network, his version of a subconscious level. The purpose of the message: to remind them to do something different. The only catch…nobody knows which different to do.

Once again the same events occur and Data sends the message to himself just before the ship explodes. The card game repeats and the players predict the sequence of cards being dealt as in previous games. Instead, each player receives a 3 card. Then each is dealt three of a kind. The subsequent events repeat themselves and during a level-three diagnostic of the ship the results appear as all 3’s. Crewmembers encounter the number 3 an inordinate number of times throughout the ship. So many conspicuous examples cannot occur by accident.

Someone proposes that a message was sent. But what could three possibly represent?

The disastrous events begin to repeat and Data sees the rank insignia of three pins on a fellow officer’s lapel and remembers. He concludes that this officer’s suggestion for avoiding disaster to be the preferable course of action. A decision is made and the crew of the Enterprise survives to inform the other ship, unknowingly trapped in the loop for more than eighty years, how to escape the situation. Data apologizes, admitting that he may have inadvertently been responsible for the unusual occurrence of numbers.

As a universal form of communication, transcending human alphabets and dialects, numbers make an ideal candidate for a common message decipherable by all. As an archaeologist for a decade, and another decade a metaphysician, I maintain the middle path between science and spirituality, intellect balanced with philosophy. Skilled in finding fragments overlooked by others, I demonstrate how number synchronicity may represent a message we have sent ourselves; a message to remind us how to escape the cycle of perceived destruction. An awareness of number synchronicity provides guidance and comfort during periods of chaos, uncertainty, transition, and growth as a beacon of light in a storm on the soul’s journey.

    Section I

    Knowledge

Since the remotest times men have used numbers to establish meaningful coincidences,

that is, coincidences that can be interpreted.

There is something peculiar, one might even say mysterious, about numbers.

Number, therefore, is in one sense an unpredictable entity.

Although I would not dare to undertake to say anything illuminating about

the inner relation between two such apparently incommensurable things as

number and synchronicity, I cannot refrain from pointing out that

not only were they always brought into connection with one another,

but that both possess numinosity and mystery as their common characteristics.

    —Carl Jung

    Number

Airport authorities apprehended several suspicious-looking people attempting to board a flight with an abacus, compass, protractor, and slide rule. The alleged members of the Al-Gebra movement were charged with carrying instruments of math instruction.

A similar joke circulating on the Internet illustrates our misconceptions of math and how our concept and use of numbers have evolved. These days, when practically anyone can access electronic computerized gadgets, such antiquities of calculating might seem out of place.

By some miracle, I graduated high school while struggling my way through mathematics, algebra, and geometry with grades barely above passing. With creative class juggling, and a good dose of fear, I made it through four years of college with only one algebra class, mistakenly considering that an achievement. Had I known then what I know now about numbers, I would have signed up for extra classes and saved myself unlimited amounts of anxiety.

An anthropological interest in learning about where numbers came from, and how ancient cultures used them, helped to reduce my fear. Early use of numbers by humans involved counting fingers, toes, and other body parts in ingenious combinations until none remained to count. Further advances led to the use of notched sticks and knotted strings. This evolved into simple scratching on clay tablets used primarily for counting property, trading livestock, measuring grain, building houses, as well as measuring distances, area, and tracking the seasons. The necessity of cuneiform inscriptions and counting in daily life led to recording the spoken word, or language, into written script.

Numbers represent a universal form of communication transcending limitations of alphabets and languages. Since ancient time people have counted and, although counting systems vary slightly from culture to culture, most use a base-ten counting system, likely a result of counting ten fingers. This may represent why the number eleven became significant, marking a transition point after running out of fingers and wondering what to do next. Once established, counting systems spread around the world with each culture having different, although similar, names for the same number.

A few base-two counting systems use 1 and 2 only, with variations on those two numbers. Presumably early humans used this form of counting. Coincidentally, a base-two counting system brings life to computer programs using a binary code of zeroes and ones rather than ones and twos.

Humanity has come close numerous times throughout history of losing all the knowledge gained before. If not for the persistence of a few individuals, we might all still count on our fingers and toes. Archimedes, Pythagoras, Euclid, Plato, Ptolemy, and Aristotle represent a few of the trailblazers into mathematical realms. Rene Descartes, Pascal, Newton, and Galileo each made unique contributions too numerous to detail in a single chapter.

Numbers seem to exist already in nature. Humans did not come along and decide to start slapping numbers on everything. Many animals have five digits and most have two eyes. With six-sided crystals, flowers with nine petals, spiders with eight legs, and so on, the entire world around us resembles a mathematical wonderland. The use of fractal geometry reveals deeper mathematical beauty and precision in nature with applications in modeling coastlines, clouds, lightning, and mountains as well as stars and galaxies.

One famous mathematical mystery includes the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi, identified by the Greek symbol, π, has baffled professional and lay mathematicians for centuries although widely used by Babylonians, Egyptians, and Chinese for millennia. The number 3.141592653…differs from other numbers by exhibiting infinite digits after the decimal, with no perceptible pattern. What makes this unique? For one, it seems that measuring the area of a circle with precision should be as easy as measuring the area of a square with precision. And creating a square with the same area as a circle should be easy, too. Right? Wrong.

Efforts to recognize a pattern or repeating sequence of numbers implies an importance to pi. The mystery of pi involves more than trying to calculate how many digits follow the decimal. Rather, what drives mathematicians insane and causes computers to meltdown is why this simple concept of the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter should be so intricate. Mega computers take pi to ten billion decimal points, and it keeps going with no observable pattern or repetition. Many have tried, all have failed. Pi can also be expressed as the imperfect fraction of 22/7 (note the 22, and that 2+2+7=11).

Not limited to the geometry of a circle, pi has applications in astronomy, art, engineering, biology, architecture, and physics. The mysterious pi appears throughout nature.

A black-and-white film directed by Darren Aronofsky, π: faith in chaos, superbly addresses the ubiquity of pi and demonstrates the intensity encountered when attempting to comprehend its elusive meaning. Wall Street investors seek the answer to manipulate the stock market.
