      Foreword

      With the fall of Adam, the human race has been groping in this sin-darkened world. The vicarious death of His son, Jesus Christ is now the blessed hope of all Christians. This notwithstanding, Satan and his agents (demons) continue to keep humanity under thralldom of sin by unleashing untold hardship, sicknesses, and confusion in marital homes among others on God’s children. It is this that Reverend Denis Anane tries to expose in his book DELIVERED TO BE FREE. This book is a modest attempt at puncturing the seeming invincibility of the prince of darkness and also breaking the aura surrounding him.

      The author succinctly describes demons are fallen angels ‘who did not keep their proper domain, but abandoned their own place of residence…" Jude1: 6. (NET Bible) According to the author, every demon has a name and their names reflect their nature and their activities. As an expert in demonology, Rev. Anane describes demons as if he has ever lived with them. This is attributable to the number of exorcisms he has conducted and also because he has taught demonology for years. All this is well exemplified in his book.

      Another feature of the book which readers may find interesting is how demons enter into humans. Rev. Anane looks at sin as one of the major avenues for demons to operate in humans. He talks about the sins of omission and the sins of commission. The author further distinguishes between what constitutes sin, iniquity and transgression. He carefully weaves into the book what curses are; types of curses and the way demons take advantage of curses invoked by people to destroy human beings.

      To further strip the devil naked, Rev Anane touches on demonic names, music, broken and polygamous homes including drugs, sex, alcohol and ungodly covenants as channels by which the devil manipulates God’s children.

      With this exposure, Rev Anane’s book puts Satan’s kingdom under threat and deals out a debilitating blow to the devil. One cardinal point in the book is that, at the end of each major issue dealt with, the author raises prayer points and places a lot of accent on the importance of prayer and fasting as an antidote to the activities of demons.

      In the last two chapters of his book, Rev Anane presents Jesus Christ as the solid Rock and a refuge where God’s children could seek sanctuary by accepting Him as their Lord and personal savior, confessing Him as their Lord and confessing their sins to Him, making a u-turn from demonic associations, forgiving others and themselves as well. He does not leave out counseling to the counselee as one of the panaceas for deliverance.

      The author finally exhorts Christians in his concluding chapter, to put on the whole amour of Christ for, "…we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" Ephesians 6:12 Rev Anane’s DELIVERED TO BE FREE is therefore highly recommended for all and sundry in this spiritual battle. This is the surest way by which we can appreciate all the machinations of the devil and be on our guard.

      Introduction

      The bible says "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against authorities, against powers of this dark world, against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12

      This makes me understand that life goes beyond the natural to the supernatural. There is more to it than what we can see and as children of light, there is the need to know what goes on in the dark world so that you can stay and depend on the light. The bible says that believers are the light of the world and if we are the light of the world then there must be a dark world. Without darkness light has no effect, thus light can only shine through darkness therefore there is the need to have knowledge of not only light but darkness too.

      The bible declares in the book of Genesis chapter 1:1-3 that "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, let there be light and there was light".

      Thus God recognized darkness and saw the need for light. If we fail to recognize darkness we cannot fully walk in the light.

      When I talk about Light and darkness in this case I am talking about the Holy Spirit and the Evil spirit. I am talking about God and his angels against Satan and his followers. A lot of people and even some believers deny the reality of demons operating in people lives. Some people do not believe in their existence, some think it just a fairy tale and that is mere ignorance because denying its existence does not deny the fact they exist.

      There is countless evidence of the existence of demonic powers. The bible is full of their activities; Jesus even spent a lot of time in His ministry casting out demons and restoring broken lives.

      So he (Jesus) travelled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogue and driving out demons. Mark 1:39

      Also in the gospel according to Mathew 12:22, the bible says that Jesus cast out demons from a man possessed by them.

      Then they brought to him a demon possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him so that he could both talk and see

      Demons exist and it’s about time that believers knew about them, their modus operandi (mode of operation) so that we can overcome them in the name of Jesus. When you give your life to Jesus Christ, you are delivered from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light and for you to fully walk in the light you must know about them. You cannot overcome something you do not know about and that is what this book is about.

      What people are lacking today is information. We live in a world where information is everything: to be less informed will bring disaster because you will not be able to keep up with many things. If you are travelling to an unknown place for the first time and you do not have knowledge about the place, you will not be confident of yourself; you can easily get lost and even be deceived by people. You can even find yourself in trouble because you may tread on dangerous grounds. You will therefore need someone who has knowledge of the place to conduct you around and tell you the history behind certain places.

      If you however, go to a place you are already familiar with, you go with confidence knowing that you can find your way around. That is what knowledge does. It builds confidence.

      The bible says my people are being destroyed for lack of knowledge… Hosea 4:6(NLT). This means that knowledge is the key to victory and for you to be able to defeat the enemy you must be well informed about their activities. You must understand that Satan and his demons have knowledge about you; they know who you are what you do, where you come from and so you have to also know who they are. You do not have to be ignorant of their devices because Satan uses the same method but in different ways to deceive human beings
