About the Author
Across rolling fields and murky moors; past crooked houses and twisty lanes; far down to the rocky shores of Northumberland, lies an island, hidden by mist and surrounded by water.
The island is Lindisfarne, and this is where our story begins…
Chapter 1
Thomas was inquisitive, adventurous and at times a little naughty. He was ten years old with ambitions of becoming the world’s best spy. He didn’t know many spies, but then spies were sneaky and not about to introduce themselves to him. So he carried on in the way he thought spies should.
Thomas had a little sister called Charlotte: she was five years old with curly brown hair and a cheeky smile, she didn’t say much, but she laughed a lot and tried to tell jokes … well, as much as a five year old could anyway. This included a lot of hand movements and a big gurgling laugh afterwards.
His father was a business man: he knew this because he wore a suit to work, Thomas didn’t really know what kind of business it was, but it needed a brief case and an umbrella. His mother had a cafe on the island which was called Pilgrims and it was one of his favourite places. She worked there through the week and spent time with Thomas and his sister at the weekends.
Today was Saturday and on Saturdays, Thomas and Charlotte were taken to Pilgrims for their weekend treat of hot chocolate and brownies.
Thomas,
called his mum, come down here and help your sister put on her coat.
