Foreword
The road of ministry can often be a difficult one. It is a road that sometimes does not yield the fruits of success as measureable by the standards of our society. The proving of success however is locked in diligence to the call when the thought of such seemed distant. Spiritual maturity is a time that is often seemingly dark and does not yield the light and ease that one would want in developing what they are working toward—the product. Whether it is a costly piece of jewelry, a uniquely designed and constructed building, or even a deliciously prepared meal, it is usually the finished product that is admired without much (if any) consideration being given to the process that brought it to that state. But the beautiful diamonds set in that gold ring did not start out that way. The diamonds were formed beneath the earth’s crust by extreme pressure and intense heat. The gold had to be melted and formed by being twisted and bent. In actuality most people would not even recognize the materials of a gold ring when in its natural state and it is generally only a veteran professional that can determine if there is any value in a diamond before it has been properly treated and cleaned and made ready for use through series’ of cutting to fit into its final setting.
That wonderful building that catches the attention of all that pass by started out on a piece of paper, probably years before construction began. Permits had to be obtained and engineers had to make assessments before that building could be completed. That wonderful meal had to be grown, harvested and/or slaughtered, then cleaned, seasoned and cooked before it was garnished and laid out on the table in front of you. The point is that everything goes through a process.
Moreover, the true strength of process is that the same diamond which is formed in a dark place would have no value to the common consumer if it was presented unprocessed and not first finished—cut into shape and cleaned to resplendent elegance, thus making it worthy of the price to be asked and truly a final product.
Romans 8:28 says, For we know that all things work together for the good of them that love the Lord and are the called according to His purpose
. The apostle is letting us know that everything that we go through works
when we put it together. In other words, the process makes the product.
The problem is many people look at the finished product of a successful business, a thriving ministry or an accomplished career and desire to have the same, without realizing the sometimes long and painful process it took to arrive at successful, thriving and accomplished. Many businesses that are successful now were at some point on the verge of bankruptcy. There were probably times when the owner had to forfeit his or her pay so that the employees could get their salaries. Most thriving ministries at some point had days when the tithes and offerings were low along with the attendance and participation of the congregants. The accomplished career came only after much study, pain and disappointment . . . the process.
My son, Thomas Cooper, is a gifted and anointed man of God that has been through his process, and he has seen me go through my process. He continues to emerge with the strength and fortitude that qualifies him to write this book. I believe that inscribed in the pages of this book are directions and instructions that will help you embrace your season of maturing and preparation.
He is evidence to the truth of ‘process to product’. Having known Thomas for quite some time I am able to personally attest to the path on which one’s life must go before reaching a pinnacle or stable point which can be deemed a ‘product’.
Thomas has grown up in the church his entire life and could say that his ministry career began as being a drummer in our church many years ago. His tenacity and commitment has been unstopping and that ministry grew, taking him on the road of becoming an ordained minister and then elder and eventually going out to pastor. It is these developments in his personal life that can easily be compacted into a few short words but in actuality have taken years to accomplish.
As you read these words which will encourage and empower you, know that the author has lived the pages of this book. It is from his own experience that he draws the conclusions of how one can successfully become a finished product and it through his words that you too will be directed through the divine path which you are already on to being a complete product yourself.
This book is for anyone going through the process, which can at times be extremely hard. You will be encouraged, and empowered to endure the process because without it, there is no product.
—Bishop Eric A. McDaniel
