Introduction
God knows and has a plan for every living human being and that plan was put in place even before any of us were born. In Jeremiah 1:5, God told the prophet Jeremiah that He knew, called and set him (Jeremiah) apart before he was born.
Again in Jeremiah 29:11, God said, I know the plans I have for you, they are plans to prosper you and give you an expected end
.
The Bible says in Genesis 2: 15 that the Lord took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden, to dress it and to keep it. Mankind has been made the care takers of the earth and everything in it from the day he was created. Man is to have dominion over the earth, but with that present dominion, comes future accountability.
Now let’s put the two verses we read from the book of Jeremiah together: God knew each of us before we were born, He also called us, gifted us and set us apart for His special use. God has good plans for each of us, and these plans are embedded in the gifts He has deposited in us. He did all of these things for you and I because of His love. If we are willing, then by God’s help, we can accomplish God’s purpose in our individual lives based solely on His grace.
All men, both saved and unsaved, have been made stewards by God (I Corinthians 7:7, Ephesians 4:7). This stewardship is not limited to managing finances though this is the primary conception that many people (to include born-again Christians) have. While it is not wrong to equate stewardship to finances it is an incomplete equation since stewardship actually involves everything that God has given mankind. Therefore, we are stewards of everything that God has provided to include our children, clothes, job, money, talents, body, spouse, time, words, environment, etc.
Since God has made everyone a steward, what kind of stewards will each of us be? In I Peter 4:10 we are told that each of us has received certain gifts and that we are to be good stewards of God’s grace. If there are good stewards then obviously there
