About this ebook

This book presents the authors vision of a prosperous and peaceful Africa South of Sahara (AfSS). This region constitutes of some fifty functional states that are sometimes referred to as nation-states; primarily due to their conspicuous failure to forge themselves into viable and cohesive multi-national states. The publishing of this book follows the authors conception of the Great Nation of Africa (GNA) Project. This book is primarily intended to communicate the essence of that project to the appreciation of as many people worldwide as possible. The GNA Project is essentially a blue-print that details how this region could be transformed into a strong and prosperous nation.
Many of the ideas and concepts contained in this book can be applied to a wide range of situations world-wide such as in: building more cohesive nations, effecting positive socio-economic transformations and addressing conflicts; be they social or armed.

So, why should the agenda of effecting positive and lasting socio-economic changes in AfSS be of interest to all? Well, sample this:

- AfSS has more than 850 million residents. Its population is estimated to stand at between 1.5 billion and 2.0 billion in the year 2050.

-Due to the legacy of colonization, the currently widespread poor governance and inept leadership, and the insidious effects of climate change; large swathes of this region seem destined for total breakdown of socio-political order.

- As the recent piracy episodes near Somali coast have been proving time and again, the larger international community will be affected by such breakdown of social order.

- AfSS is well endowed in natural resources and a young vibrant population. If appropriately nurtured and directed, it has the potential to become one of the most important socio-economic entities in the world.

Author

Sundiata Kaajja

The author is the founder of The Great Nation of Africa (The GNA). He commenced the conceptualization of the GNA Project in early 2005. Towards mid 2007, the progress of the Project’s research and documentation began to falter primarily due to logistical challenges. He had earlier on acquired Canadian Permanent Residency with the intention of settling with his family in Canada and had actually commenced the process of settling down in Toronto in October 2007. His plans however were to change dramatically after going back to Kenya in December of that year to relocate his family as well as to take part in Kenya’s December 2007 general elections. The violence that followed those elections burst the myth that Kenya was an island of peace in a region of turmoil. The chaos resulted in the death of some 1300 people and the displacement of more than 650,000 others. Critical observers of Africa South of Sahara (AfSS) then began to grapple with the question of exactly how stable all AfSS countries really are. The author felt that it was time to restart research and documentation of the GNA Project. He therefore decided to give up on his plans to relocate; hoping to play some part in the search for solutions that would ensure that similar conflicts in AfSS in general, could be avoided. By the beginning of the year 2009, he felt that he had been able to carry out adequate research and reflection to commence the compilation of his initial documentation on the GNA Project, leading up to the publishing of this book. The author was born Joseph Kanja Kuria in Kenya and holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Nairobi. His adoption of the pen name, Sundiata Kaajja, is as expounded elsewhere in the book.
