    Growing Up in a Small Town

    Growing up in the small town of Anderson, South Carolina, as a small girl was exceptional. Everyone knew each other and displayed lots of love and compassion. The entire community helped raised each others’ children. I was raised in the old school. You had to pull a small branch from a tree to be used for discipline. My grandmother influenced me to help the elderly in our community with different chores as a small child, such as mopping the floors, ironing clothes, washing dishes, taking out the garbage, combing and brushing hair, or reading the Word of God to them.

    My father was a businessman and worked for a factory for many years; he owned a few rental properties to provide for the family. Our family did not lack for anything. I had a younger brother. We grew up very close to each other and had a lot of love and respect for each other. My brother and I had savings accounts as young children because our daddy taught us about the value of money at an early age.
