About this ebook

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics and an Article in the January , 2014 Huff Post Black Voices, "One in every three black males born today can expect to go to prison at some point in their life, compared with one in every six Latino males, and one in every 17 white males, if current incarceration trends continue."

Many of these young men fall victim to the siren song of the streets...often glamorized through music videos and movies. The truth is, the streets have rules, and failure to make it big in the game-whatever the game may be-is directly tied to the failure to learn, understand, and maintain the rules.

Still, author Ricky St. Julien II, also known as rapper, "Silk G" says the secrets of the streets can propel you to success in any entrepreneurial endeavor you undertake. In 48 Laws of Hustling, St. Julien, who has spent time as a guest of the prison system, pulls back the covers of the game, or hustling as it is widely known, in an effort to keep forthcoming generations from becoming a statistic.

    A Note From The Author

There are well over 1.5 million people behind bars in the United States. This represents the highest per capita incarceration rate in the world. Prison, no longer just a place for criminals it is now a place of Big Pimpin. Good Business, profits and losses and good old American investing.

Communication companies are even gouging prisoners with exorbitant phone calling rates, often six times the normal long distance charge. One of the fastest growing sectors of the prison is private corrections companies. Prison owners are making billions by cutting corners which harm prisoners. Substandard diets, extreme overcrowding, and abuses by poorly trained personnel can often be expected. Prisoners can be forced to work for pennies because they have no rights.

Even the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which abolished slavery, excludes prisoners from its protections. The moral of the story is as with anything, its business. At the end of the day crime really does pay, but not always for the one who commits it. Prisons are not reducing crime, but they are fracturing already vulnerable families and communities.

I wrote this book 48 Laws of Hustling - Don't Be A Statistic to point out many of the mistakes that hustlers make leading to being arrested in hopes that the reader will not fall victim to becoming a prisoner or statistic. I sincerely thank you for purchasing this book and I thank everyone who takes the time out to read, it or share the information enclosed.

    Best Wishes,

    PROLOGUE

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics and a January, 2014 Huffington Post Black Voices article, One in every three black males born today can expect to go to prison at some point in their life, compared with one in every six Latino males, and one in every 17 white males, IF current incarceration trends continue. As the author of this book I strongly encourage men of minority to break this trend by becoming aware of the 48 Laws of Hustling.

The war on drugs has been waged primarily in communities of color where people of color are more likely to receive higher sentences for the same offenses. One out of nine African American men will be incarcerated between the ages of 20-34. Black males 30-34 have the highest incarceration rate of any race or ethnicity according to an America Community Survey.

The leading cause of incarceration of an African American male is a non-violent drug offense. (Statistics of incarcerated African-American males from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Statistics show that the cost of supporting a prisoner is more costly because that person isn’t productively contributing to the economy. A man who serves ten years of his life in prison will cost society $216,240 just for the cost of his incarceration, but that same man earning an annual salary of $15,000 would, over a 45 year working life, contribute $675,000 to the gross national product. There are more black men in the United States today in prison than there are enrolled in four year colleges. (Data from Statistical Abstract of the United States 1989)

I ask that while reading this book that you receive the information herein with an open-mind. While some subjects and chapters may pertain to you, there is a chance that others will not. No matter what walk of life you come from or the choice of your profession, there is something within the contents of this book that you can apply to your life rather you recognize your source of income as a hustle or not.

You will notice that every chapter begins with a quote from the book of the Bible. Many critics may condemn me for doing that after reading the following context which in no way represents or depicts any form of theology. The 48 Laws of Hustling is not a religious based book or was in no way written to exemplify ANY form of religion. However, I quote the Bible for the purpose of explaining the basic fundamentals of hustling. Fundamentals are the origin and basic doctrine for gain.

The fundamentals for success are the same from biblical times still to this present day and are governed by the laws of the universe serving as a solid foundation with no regards towards any race, religion, sex, color, or creed. Just as much as the Bible is considered the sovereign book for Christians, the 48 Laws of Hustling is the supreme repository of knowledge for hustlers, business men and entrepreneurs with common goals and interest. Contrary to what many may think, it’s not hard to succeed and overcome negative statistics. It’s just hard for some of us to follow these basic fundamentals that you are about to read!

    LAW #1

    NEVER GET HIGH OFF

    YOUR OWN SUPPLY

Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8

Of course everybody doesn't follow the rules, but the 1st law of this book is just as old as the game of hustling itself. You might recall the scene in the movie, Scarface, when Frank gives Tony Montana the game and tells him not to get high off his own supply. Needless to say, Frank was higher than a giraffe’s pussy as he explained the rules.

Likewise, Tony also began using his own supply during the course of the movie which also led to his downfall along with some pretty action-filled events. I always wondered how the movie would’ve turned out with a sober Tony Montana. Had not Tony been snorting cocaine he probably would have made better decisions and could have avoided going to war with the drug lord Sosa. Sosa told Tony not to ever fuck him. Unfortunately, Tony wasn’t focused because he was using his own supply.

In previous years, I’ve seen many hustlers not only ruin their life, but spend their wheels hustling just to support their drug habit. They initially got in the game to make thousands of dollars and over the years, they looked back at their life only to see that they spent thousands of dollars getting high. At one point during my earlier days of experimenting within the drug industry, I tried to obey Law #1 by substituting what I sold by getting high off of a different drug. For example, when I was selling regular weed, instead of smoking it, I would smoke hydroponic weed. When I sold blow, instead of using it, I took Ecstasy. I felt that as long as I wasn’t using the drug I was selling, I was obeying the rules, focused, and saving money.

    In reality,
