Captured by a Blade - Brianna West
Chapter One
A Jerk Named Blade
The day I came into my bloodlust for the first time was the day my life changed forever.
As a mix breed, not truly faerie and not entirely vampire, I was abandoned from early on. Practically at birth.
My mother, a pureblood vampire, had fallen in love with a faerie. And that was all she wrote. That was how I came to be this interesting, unorthodox mix of two supernatural creatures. My mother was tossed aside before she realized I was conceived. And my father, well, he was never really in the picture at all once the two had...you know.
Faerie men could be real jerks.
So, after I turned five, my mother abandoned me to an orphanage. I was then adopted by parents who were both human. Who then unfortunately discovered fairly early on that I wasn’t.
Thankfully, they dealt with it relatively well.
My adoptive mother screamed, passed out, and repeated those two actions for an hour or so. My father hummed and didn’t move from his spot for that very length of time, looking both perplexed and intrigued by my sharpened incisors and blaring, partially red and blue eyes.
But to my relief, after a few days of listening in utter disbelief, they decided they would attempt to get in contact with the supernatural world.
It didn’t exactly pan out, and when it was clear I wouldn’t be finding anyone like myself anytime soon, my parents made a pact to help me however they could to keep my otherworldliness a secret.
But my curiosity and desperation to know more about the world I’d come from, the one I was discarded from without so much as a Check you later!
or I’ll be back...gimme ten years,
was the very reason I searched for somewhere to belong. Somewhere I might be more than the kept secret of my human family.
That was when I met Blade.
And yes, he actually called himself that. It was weird, obnoxious, and clearly a red flag, but fact of the matter was, he was my savior.
It all happened the night I turned seventeen.
I didn’t know this at the time, but when a vampire turns seventeen, their body crosses the threshold from child to adult in a singular second. And then...things happen.
Crazy, mystical, blood-lusting sorts of things that I wasn’t aware would happen in the middle of the night, on my usual walk home from the nearby library after a particularly difficult study session with my best friend and accomplice in all things shenanigans, Valerie.
My vampire blood had awoken.
Or that was how it’d been explained to me later.
It was as if I’d been lured to that alley by the smell of fresh and undeniably enticing baked goods. The sweet fragrance was enchanting, stealing away all thoughts inside of my head and replacing them with the need to devour the scent taking hold of me.
My feet moved on their own. Like I was possessed, I just stumbled off a completely weird direction towards a long, narrow side street to follow the smell I caught wind of. Walking almost as if my legs didn’t move well. I might’ve even tripped more times than normal, but all I cared about was whatever that smell was and how to get ahold of it.
I didn’t know when it all happened, because it was a sort of blur after I’d been hit with the yummy scent. But suddenly, I was being dragged off a screaming man, who ironically sounded more like a teenage girl than I did, and pinned to a hard brick wall.
The injured girly man scampered off like he’d seen a ghost, or in this case, a vampire, and then left me to figure out why my backside was eating into a cement wall and there was a yearning to chase after him like some sort of predatory animal.
The taste of sweet blood lingered on my lips as the scent of metal rose up from my throat. A set of perfectly entrancing green eyes bore into mine, their glow startling a small gasp from my throat. I hadn’t even realized until a short second later that the smell of metal I’d just detected was a sizeable knife pressed dangerously close to my throat.
Holy shizballs! It’s like twelve inches long!
