    The girl stopped dreaming long ago. Nowadays, whenever the sun disappears below the belly of the earth, she stares at a dark star in a dark, velvety mold. Some nights, when the darkness is thickest, the fires weakest, she reaches up and strokes it, for it is a dying star. Its rock is charcoal, and it emanates the softest blue light, cool to the touch. It has been this way since before she can remember. Carefully, she sometimes brings it closer to herself, holding it next to her face in the earthen darkness. Sometimes, they converse in whispers under the brightest, gossipy twinklers. Some-times, there is only silence. Tonight, in a raspy, hopeless voice, it breathes, “Girl”—for it does not know her name—“bring me a lover, and I shall be a star.”

    “Dark Star” is a tale of death and identity. A young woman called Aduna embarks on a wandering to find a lover for her friend, a dark star. On her journey, she finds herself in the throes of a magic she does not understand, that she might not have enough time to appreciate before those she loves perish.
