so.
Manhood
If I get to be half the man that you are becoming, that will make me twice the man that I am now. I have a great deal of respect for you and hope you continue to make decisions that bring honor to our family. Manhood is a growth process, not just a landmark at which you will arrive. At every phase of manhood, you should experience an increase in understanding and operate with higher standards than before.
Live by your own standards. Over time, you will gather ideas and precepts that help you form your own system of thinking. Walk in your beliefs regardless of the actions of others. Standing alone is not a condition that one must suffer. It is an advantageous path that one takes in order to travel with less baggage and no one to slow you down.
Own up to your mistakes. This will make you a greater man than most of the men in your company. Owning up to mistakes is most often personal and internal to the extent that you are being honest with yourself.
Sometimes, owning up to mistakes calls for open confession to those who were impacted. Be courageous with your apology. Mark the moment as an accomplishment. Also be intentional about moving past it.
Be a man of valor. Live with a set of values upon which you stand firmly. Have a set of principles that you would defend with your life. Draw boundaries that you are committed to never cross, nor allow others to convince you to compromise. People will learn from the way you live. When they know what you stand for, there will rarely be any confrontation.
Avoid confrontations driven by your ego. Do not waste your time being in contention with others about things that have no value. Without values, your battles are a frivolous fight. Live valiantly and let those who are petty squabble over unimportant things. Disengage when there is contention. Others may not use wisdom, logic or understanding at your level. This heightens the chances that a conversation can turn into a brawl. Have nothing to do with this. Your manhood should not be measured by your fighting ability but by your capacity to make better decisions.
As a man, you will always be faced with challenges. When you have multiple problems, calm yourself and address them one at a time. The more problems you solve, the more confident you will become. In time, you will realize that problems do not upset you but rather motivate you to resolve issues daily.
Face the pain. Even though it is difficult to admit your faults and failures, acknowledge them and grow. Confession may be painful but it is temporary because the problem goes away. Living with your unacknowledged faults is forever.
Be the kind of man you want your sons to become. They will learn your personality, your habits and emulate you in every way they possibly can. Care for them enough to model a life of scrupulous behavior. If you refuse to uphold a standard, be honest with them about your failure so they have a fighting chance to find a better path.
Leaving your sons with a false sense of reality about the world is one of the cruelest things you can do to them. When they find their way, they will have little or no respect for you.
Be the kind of man you want your daughters to marry. You are the standard for what they believe to be normal. You should be honored, not troubled, when they marry a guy just like you.
Be a man of peace. Practice communicating above conflict. Use calm words of wisdom. If there is no clear resolution, bid a peaceful farewell and use the nearest exit. The only physical altercations that have value are those that last twelve rounds and have a multi-million-dollar purse.
Do not allow anyone to usurp your value as a man. People will often attempt to demote or diminish your value. This is a tactic used by those who are intimidated, threatened, self-absorbed, or have self-esteem issues. Do not let these encounters define the measure of your greatness. Your manhood is much more than a moment in time with injured
