About this ebook

On a planet called Utopia, an aging wizard named Loden created an island he called Nor for the safe keeping of various entities that he cherished. They were all magical in different ways and were forbidden in other worlds. The King that he left to rule these kingdoms is dying. In secret, another wizard created a realm for entities he liked. They came to be called the Underworlders. When word got around that Loden’s King was dying, the Underworlders saw the opportunity to take over the Kingdoms for themselves. At this time the Queen of the Fairies has died and happy-go-lucky Princess Elise is the popular choice. . . .

    The Kingdoms of Magic

Book 1: The King is dying and war threatens . . . .

    By Robert Marquiss

    Chapter One

    The visit

King Zurich’s castle sits on the northern part of the Island of Nor. It is a huge, massive stone structure with high walls, dozens of high, square and round towers, watch towers and massive siege walls, all looming over the country side. It is surrounded by a mote that’s seventy feet wide and twenty feet deep. Its drawbridge is a massive iron-bolted wooden structure, stretching across the mote and held in place by huge, hefty chains. It takes ten men on each winch to retract the drawbridge up to cover the castle’s gate. The massive keep is in the middle of the fortress and the town of Zurich is clustered around it. It is a hub of commerce.

Princess Dielos is in her chambers in the Castle's Keep. She’s the King’s only daughter. She is in her late twenties, slender and very pretty. Her room is lavish. Exquisite tapestries hang on the walls. All the furniture is ornately carved wood. Her bed is fit for a Queen, with ornate red silk hanging down from all sides of the canopy. The bed’s backboard is carved with scenes from the forest and has images of many of its animals intertwined within it.

The Princess is pacing the floor, looking worried. Her maid enters. She is a plump old woman, wearing the clothes of her station. She has been with the princess since birth.

Princess Dielos asks, Nana? How is he?

Nana replies, The doctor is still with him. Nana puts her hand on the Princess’s arm and continues, I am worried too.

Princess says, I hope he’s not being bled. That’s an insane kind of healing.

Nana replies, Doctor Christen isn’t like that. That’s why I called him. He’s a naturalist and heals with herbs. I think that is why you father has lasted so long.

As she paces the floor, the Princess ponders, This is so trying. What will happen to the Kingdom when he’s gone?

Nana assures her, You will take his place as Queen, my lady. You know that.

The Princess objects, I know nothing about running a kingdom, especially the way my father does it.

    Nana comes close
