About this ebook

Some students graduating today feel cheated because they are not prepared to enter a career. They don’t have the necessary skills to survive as adults in our complex society. As parents, teachers, and concerned community members, we need to remove the old education system and replace it with a new system that centers around students, not statistics.
Reinventing Education in America provides a general overview of a new system - student-centered Leveled Learning, which encourages good communication, logic, creativity, and personal identity skills. This system is designed to prepare students for a career and give them the life skills they need in today’s America.

    Preface

Once upon a time there was a widow with five children. Because of the way the School System had humiliated and frustrated her two oldest, she decided to Homeschool all of them. She began teaching through play with games and stories so that the children began to loose their fear and hatred of learning. It became an adventure.

Along the way, the widow became an Interpretive Ranger for the National Park Service. She discovered many amazing techniques for helping people of all ages connect with the places they were visiting. These techniques also worked with her children.

But the Mother-in-law did not approve of Homeschooling. She believed that the School System had been good enough for her son so it was good enough for her grandchildren. She pressured the Widow and told the children they weren’t really learning anything.

One day, the oldest child decided that the Mother-in-law, being older and wiser, must be right. She announced that she was done with Homeschooling and was enrolling in a GED program. She finished it in a short time and was forced to admit that she really had been learning all along.

Time passed and the children began moving on to their own adventures. They no longer needed the guidance of the Widow so she decided to help other children in the School System by becoming a substitute para-educator. Armed with everything she had learned from Homeschooling her own children and being an Interpretive Ranger, she began helping students who had been labeled as challenged or special needs.

What she discovered was that the students were struggling with the same issues that her oldest children had fought with over twenty years before. Her techniques helped those students just as they had helped her own children.

But Fate decided to throw in a cruel twist. The Widow became disabled. She could no longer work as an Interpretive Ranger or a para-educator. But she could still write. The result is the book you are reading.

This is not the end of the story but the beginning. The Widow hopes that by sharing her techniques with others she can make a difference for all children being humiliated and frustrated by the School System. She hopes that caring teachers and concerned parents will share her ideas and begin Reinventing Education in America.
