Diary Of A Wimpy Noob - Nooby Lee

    Part 1: School's Out

    RRRRRIIIIINNNNGGGG !!!!!!

The school bell resounded through the school with it's beloved, albeit annoying, clanging, signaling the end of another school day. Teachers who were only moments earlier elbow deep in dry expository on philosophy or mathematics instantly are drowned out by the clamor of students slamming books shut and rushing into the hallways, all in a desperate bid to escape the confines of the elementary school as soon as possible. The fact is, life was too short to be cooped up inside! Especially on a day like today! It was the fall season, my favorite time of year. And like everyone else, I was excited about getting out of school. Today was even more special because today was Friday!

Mr. Hawthorne, our English teacher had been droning on about the impact Victorian literature in the 19th century, and I had been battling to stay awake when class finally came to a close. I quickly shoved my books into my book bag and joined the herd of kids pushing and shoving their way into the hallways. Behind me, I heard Mr. Hawthorne shouting something about an assignment for the weekend, but no one listened. We couldn't possibly be expected to do schoolwork when we hadn't heard what it was, could we? Of course not!

I elbowed my way through the crowd of kids in the hall and finally managed to reach my locker. I quickly spun the dial on my combination lock and swung the metal door open. I shoved my books hurriedly inside, pausing for only a brief instant to look at the small photo of my hero, Han Solo, taped in the back of the locker. Once this task was complete, I slammed the locker back shut and joined my schoolmates in the mass exodus outside.

And what a beautiful day it was! It was the afternoon, and the sun was beginning its descent towards the horizon, but it still shone brightly on this cloudless fall day. There was a chill in the air, and I was definitely grateful for the denim jacket I was wearing, but the sun was warm still, and the combination felt marvelous! I made a silent wish that the weather would stay like this all weekend. I was hoping to go out to the lake tomorrow morning and fish! This would be the perfect weather for it too!

No that I was out of school and feeling the wind on my skin I was filled with a renewed energy! I raced to the bike rack where I had stashed my skateboard. Unlike most of the kids here in Hawkins, I preferred to skate rather than ride a bike. Up until a few weeks ago, I had been allowed to bring my board inside the school, but a
