Prior to joining the FBI, Voss was part of the Kansas City police force. He has witnessed crimes after crimes in the city. After this stint, he began his career in the FBI. His job as a hostage negotiator led him to dangerous situations, face-to-face with armed criminals. He has negotiated with terrorists and bank robbers alike. Because of his excellent negotiation skills, Voss became the lead international kidnapping negotiator of the FBI. What matters most in his career is saving lives and Voss shares how he does it. He shares his experiences and principles in his book Never Split the Difference. In this book, Voss shares nine counterintuitive strategies that an average person can use in his personal and professional life.
