"Hey mom did you wash my sweat suit?" "Mom where are my ballet shoes?" "Hon, have you seen my blue tie?" "Mom, when will dinner be ready?" These are the cries heard in many households all the time. Mothers answer them everyday. However, there is a cry that is not as loud as these yet occurs in every Christian home. .There is a greater cry that moms are often unable to answer.
"Come fellowship with me". Come commune with me". Come and languish in my anointing". These are the cries of the Father that moms hear and desire to answer, but are not always able to respond to immediately. Imagine the frustration of hearing the cry from the Creator and not being able to answer. I do not mean to suggest that moms do not spend any time in meaningful fellowship with the Lord. They do, but often the stress and time consuming tasks of managing a home and everything else crowds out quality time with the Lord..
Often, in exasperation moms accept lost time with the Lord as the norm rather than the exception. When you think about it, hearing from God is of paramount importance especially when you are called to the awesome responsibility of managing and nurturing a family. It requires a consistent and intimate relationship with the Lord.
I believe Cheryl to be the ideal mom to address this issue. Since the birth of our first child I have seen Cheryl identify and deal with this issue head on. Utilizing practical ideas and personal self-determination Cheryl has successfully nurtured a consistent and a deeply committed personal relationship with the Lord. At the same time she has poured herself into our children, nurturing them spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically and at the same time. In essence, Cheryl has chased after God and the kids too and has caught up, and is now running along side of both! - Derek Carter, Intentional Dad

In the Presence of God
A
s moms we often feel our jobs are less than divine. After all, our lives are spent dealing with dirty dishes, grimy laundry, messy spills, and smelly bathrooms. What can be divine about that? Intellectually, we know that God is omnipresent and, therefore, we accept that He must be there with us. But this is mere mental assent, as we often struggle to get our heads above water until the next time we can have time alone with the Lord. We want God, but often He just seems so distant in our everyday lives.
We begin to lean on our time alone with God. We are assured we will meet with Him there. However, some of us struggle, even in our quiet time, to feel the presence of God. We do it out of a sense of Christian duty or service, but we get no joy out of it, except for the occasional religious rush we get when we check it off our to-do list. The real issue is the problem did not begin in our prayer closets. It began in our daily lives, in the choices we made, the thoughts we allowed to run rampant in our minds, and the attitudes we allowed to become strongholds in our decision making process. It is our daily lives that must be dealt with first.
One of my favorite books is Practicing the Presence of God. This classic, written by Brother Lawrence, is ripe with godly insight and blessing. He was a monk in the 1600s who was known to experience God’s presence on a daily basis. He said, and I paraphrase for the sake of clarity, that after his personal time with God, he applied his mind carefully to the rest of the day, and even in the midst of his business, to the presence of God, when he considered He was always with me, often in me.
Now before you dismiss the notion, let’s look at the biblical precedence for such a thought. The children of Israel experienced God’s presence in the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. Acts 17:28 declares, in Him we live and move and have our being.
Christ is not in a cloud. In this dispensation, the Lord has taken residence in our hearts, and we can live in his presence daily.
Okay, Cheryl, how can I do this? Invite God into the process. The neat thing about God is that He is not like us. We tell our children to clean their rooms and, by golly, they better clean their rooms by the time we come in and check. God tells us to clean up our act, then offers to come in and help us. Makes you re-think some of your parenting decisions, huh? Often we hear a sermon, a message, or read a good book and struggle to implement suggestions we know will change our lives. God gives us information that helps us make the right choice, then equips us to make that choice.
Scripture is ripe with examples of this. In Deuteronomy 28, the infamous—or famous, depending on whether you look at the glass as half-filled or half-empty—talks about the blessing God will give His people, and the curses, or negative consequences, of their own sin if they make the wrong choice. He
