Author

Beverly Blount

Beverley Blount lives in Mexico City and El Paso, Texas. She is currently completing 28 years of training Montessori teachers in her schools. Blount had an eight -page article published in the award-winning centennial issue of the MONTESSORI LIFE journal and two lead articles in The KAPPAN, the ADK International Teacher's Organization's biannual journal. In 2008, the Mexican National Circle of Reporters awarded her their Golden Sun Statuette for special educational merit. This book is the result of her 46 years in the Montessori system of Education and her lifetime love of reading. She feels that the day one learns to read is possibly the most important day in one's life and that destroying this moment by using crude techniques and not properly preparing the beginning reader nor understanding when they are ready should be considered a crime. Her book El Dorado won first place in the 2013 El Paso Publisher's contest In the 2014 Writer's League annual contest her story Haciendado won first place and was published in their annual book Border Tapestry. In the 2015 Writer's League contest three of her entries won two first places and one second place and will also be published in their journal..

I have been working for more than 20 years with Beverley as she developed her guide. We designed material to be used with the lists as she added words, phrases and more combinations of sounds. The material enabled the children to construct correctly their ongoing knowledge of reading and comprehension step by step. Although most of our children are non-native English speakers, they read with correct pronunciation and a very high level of English reading comprehension.

My daughter continued through Beverley’s Elementary school and is now in England where she amazes people with her impressive pronunciation and reading of English. All of her friends that were together through our Kinder and Elementary school equally excel in reading and pronouncing English.
