Michael Reisman

I have been writing since I was thirteen years old. My teachers in school through the years suggested that I pursue this talent. It is my sensitivity to nature and life’s situations that drives me to tell it as it is. I was raised in Brooklyn, New York and moved to the Bronx. Now I live in Westchester, New York. With soft music or in plain old-fashioned silence, one can be inspired to write. It is my goal to make one think and feel and wonder through my writings. As long as my heart beats, my mind creates; the pen shall never run out of ink.

    Taking Center Stage…

Caroline was only three years old when her parents noticed something very special about her. Their daughter would dance around the room whenever music was on. No matter what the song, every step and every move was right in sync. This continued all the way up to her tenth birthday and mom and dad knew there was a special God given talent. Caroline eventually had a dream and a goal to become a famous dancer. They enrolled her in dancing school on the weekends and the instructors sensed a very special talent in her. She had a dream throughout her high school years of being in ballet slippers taking center stage. Applause was heard by only family members at special gatherings during the holidays when she danced for them. In her senior year of college it was then that she was discovered by a talent scout. Caroline appeared as a contestant on a local T V dance contest show. She got the votes week after week and when the month was over it turned out she was the winner. The keen eye of a Broadway director had seen that show and called mom and dad with some good news, an audition was set up for Caroline to be in a major play on Broadway. She won the part in a major role of the featured dancer. Pink furry ballet slippers were to be worn and she remembered a dream from a long time ago. Critics gave a five star review and the play was number one for the next three years. She was contacted by a major director of movies to make a film about her. Fame and fortune soon followed as the movie was voted best picture of the year. The speech by her at the awards was overwhelming and heartfelt as mom and dad cried while the audience stood up and gave a standing ovation. She held up a pair of pink ballet slippers and said this was my dream, and now it has come to pass. There was an encore entrance as the crowd stood on their feet and asked for more. Caroline took center stage….

    Pier 19…

Kevin had realistic dreams which played out like a soap opera. At least three times a week they would occur and would continue where the previous one left off. It stopped with a sign that said Pier 19 on a beach a few miles from his house. He retraced every moment from what he remembered until his car parked in a lot not that far from Pier 19. The last thing he thought of was a scream he heard just before he woke up. Kevin lay down a blanket on the sand close to the ocean as he did before in his dream. Would this dream of his continue in real life? He shook it off as a trick of his imagination and just enjoyed the rest of day at a beach he had been to once before. A scream from the waters just in front of him woke him up. Help me please, a voice cried out from the crashing waves. Evelyn had a cramp in her leg and her hands waved frantically above the waves. He ran and dove into the water and reached her as the on duty lifeguard was right behind him. Kevin pulled her to the surface and managed to get her back on the beach. Mouth to mouth resuscitation had her spit out the salt water from her lungs. He rode with her in the ambulance to the hospital where she blacked out. A warm hand held hers as she awoke and Kevin introduced himself. Evelyn smiled and said thank you for saving my life. He told her of his dreams as she confided in him of the ones she had which were very similar to his. The soap opera of sleepless nights finally ended with something that was to be a warning of things to come. A first beach party was held the following summer where a bride and groom would get married on the sand before the waves. Mouth to mouth this time was a very romantic kiss by Kevin and Evelyn. Per chance to dream of things to come with a wedding album cover in bold capital letters, Pier 19….

    My Pillow Your Pillow…

In summer camp we met for the first time, two strangers who quickly became friends at the ages of ten and nine years old. Our parents picked us up when the summer was over and were very happy that their daughter had made a new friend with someone who already lived in the neighborhood, but had never met before. We attended each others birthday parties the next few years and we also went back to that summer camp. You remembered the flowers I left under your pillow and I remembered the same under mine. Daisies become roses as we went into our teen years and early twenties. Our parents sensed something very special in our relationship and smiled. One night I had a dream where I visited you while your head lay sleeping on your pillow. It was a gift that was supposed to be handed to you in person, but instead was put under your pillow. You awoke the next morning with one hand under the pillow as usual. Something was in reach at your fingertips as it was clutched into your hand. My phone rang about five minutes later as you asked me how did this engagement ring get under my pillow? It was in a dream the night before, I replied. You said yes over the phone and we both told our parents about the good news. It was a beautiful wedding the following month of June as both our moms and dads had thought this would be. A honeymoon soon followed as we checked into the hotel. Both of us had one hand under the pillow as we always slept that way before. At the kitchen table we met for breakfast with both our hands behind our backs, just waiting to surprise each other. At the same time we both held out a daisy and a rose that was given in last nights dream. A gift we had from before from my pillow, your pillow….

    A Matter Of Transfer…

Kevin woke up one morning and found some sand in his bed. He knew that the day before he wasn’t at the beach, so this puzzled him. Then he remembered a dream from just a little while ago about being on a beach. The sheets went into the laundry and Kevin forgot about it after a few days. A vivid dream of him swimming in a pool had happened one cold December night. A place where we sometimes wish we were during the summer. His bed was soaked upon awakening and the strong smell of chlorine that pools often have filled his room. He finally realized what was going on here. Certain dreams would carry over to real life in his bed the following morning. It didn’t make sense but Kevin accepted it and also kept it to himself, as nobody else would believe this. In the next dream he won the lottery but woke up only to realize it was just a wish fulfillment that a lot of us have. He rolled over on his pillow and felt something unfamiliar. Something made of thin cardboard was beneath his face. It was a lottery ticket from that night in a dream. He cashed it in real life and was very rich for about a year or so. Then he spent it all and lost everything due to bad decisions. Money was not happiness as he soon found out. There was a dream soon afterwards where Kevin met the girl he was to fall in love with. It lasted several nights as it had to be continued. A wedding took place on the final night of his continuing dreams and he smiled just before he awoke. Kathy kissed him good morning, a bride from the night before. Maybe this is all it was supposed to be about, a special gift of dreams turning to reality where happiness is not measured in dollars and cents. Kathy had some similar dreams a few years before as a wake up call was shared by both. A matter of transfer….
