    All By Myself

    Reggie and his family just moved into a new house out in the country. Dad worked a long distance from home, but mom worked out of a home office. Reggie didn’t know anyone in the neighborhood and was too shy to try to make friends. He had two older brothers but they both got married and moved away.

    Hour after hour Reggie would sit in the dining room staring out into the backyard. One day he spotted a cat in the yard. Every day the cat would come to the yard. Reggie saved some of his chicken salad sandwich and left it on the porch for the cat. From inside, he watched the cat come near the porch with his nose close to the ground. He came closer and closer until he found the food. Like a frog on a fly, the cat gulped the food and ran back into the woods. The next day, Reggie left more food for the cat, but this time he put it closer to the patio door. Again, the cat came from the woods, looking cautiously before bounding onto the porch and into the plate of food. Reggie had left a
