    AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY

Mark A. Russell, a retired social studies educator and Christian grew up near Pawnee Rock, KS. He always had dogs, hunted and farmed. He has always had a love for reading. He retired from Wyandotte High School, Kansas City, KS. He and wife, Linda, live outside Melvern, KS with Ellie their black Labrador.

    REASON FOR WRITING BOOK

    • To help people to know how to act and behave as Christians

    • How to worship God.

    • This is the story of Ellie. She is a Labrador Retriever, who cannot read or write and sometimes is hard to understand. I have learned much about how I should act in the presence of God since meeting Ellie. Most of it is common sense and very easy, but you need to pay attention and apply what you see and observe.

    • A book for those who have a hard time knowing how God wants them to act and behave.

    • Being a Christian is not rocket science. In fact, the Priest accused Jesus of making religion too simple and easy to understand. If it became too easy the temple priest might not be needed to explain the word of God. Jesus was sharing the information with everyone, not just God’s chosen few. Jesus’ goal was that everyone needs to love and understand their need for God.

    • If you want to know and worship God, find a Bible and get yourself a dog. The Bible gives you the word of God. This is one way He talks and lets us know what is expected of us. The New Testament will reveal what Jesus was trying to teach us. The dog will show you how you should act and worship your master.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I would like to thank my many loving friends for their help and encouragement. They have inspire me!

A special thanks to my wife for the clerical assistance. Her love and support, not only for me and my book but also for letting dogs share our lives.

Also special thanks to friends: Joyce Bennett, Barb Wilson, Mary Olsen, Wade Russell, Merrilyn Volkman, Pam and Wayne Cranwell, Jay Barbian, Pastor Jim and wife Joann Stigall, Pastor Dwayne and wife Karen Kessler and Helen Taylor for their assistance—proof reading, suggestions, input and encouragement throughout the writing and publishing process.

Author’s Note: The best advise I ever received came from my high school English teacher. She told me that when I graduated, that if I planned to go on to college and graduate, I needed to marry the first young lady that caught my fancy that could also spell and type. I graduated and thank you, Maxilyn Schmidt for good advise and a great wife.

This Book is Dedicated to Jesus Christ my Savior!

I would also like to acknowledge the many dogs I have known. They have shown me how to be a more faithful, loving servant to God and my fellow man. Their love and willingness to sacrifice, even their lives for me, sets an example that I only hope and pray to be able to emulate.

To my moms’ dog, Jack and Grammys’ dog, Curly, the best friends a youngster could have.

To our fourth grade teachers retriever that jumped into the duck blind to kill the rattlesnake hidden there and sacrificed his life for his master.

To Cindy, who threw herself on a rabid skunk so mom and I would have time to get my younger sisters and baby brother to safety.

To Gus, the farm dog, that watched over our house and kept it safe for eleven years. He was always there to greet you and lift your spirits whether leaving or coming home.

To Snoopy, the smallest in size but the biggest in heart. She was the only dog that ever had the run of the entire house. She was the champion and companion of the entire family.

To Harvey, the one true hunter. What a great nose! He would rather hunt than do anything else.

To Oreo, who grabbed a huge bull by the nose when the bull was threatening to charge me. Oreo hung on and was shaken back and forth until the bull finally shook her loose. By then, Mr. Bull had enough and was easily run back to the barn.

To Ellie, my inspiration for this book. She is a great dog and extremely funny. She seems to love everyone but is very protective. She kept a mountain lion out of our yard by her terrible barking and growling until we could come to her aid. During the rut season, she chased a big whitetail buck away that tried to sneak up and attack me.

    PRAYER

Dear Lord, help me live up to my dogs’ expectations. Make me half as good a master as she believes me to be.

I pray that I may follow my dogs examples of self sacrifice, service and love. Grant me the faith to love and worship you the way she believes in me.

Teach me to be kind and observant of others and always have a keen awareness of your presence and wishes. I thank you for my many blessings, especially the love and support of family, friends and dogs. Amen

    DOGS

    Dogs dare because

    you are there

    You know no fear

    because Christ is near

    The two statements

    above are tight

    Because it’s love

    that makes them right

    Love is grand

    for both dog and man

    Love is grand because

God takes us by the hand

    Love, faith and sacrifice

    that is a dogs life

    Love, faith and sacrifice

    that is a Christian’s life

    Love, faith and sacrifice

    that is Jesus’ advise.

    Mark Russell

    WHY A DOG?

Large families and extended families are no longer the norm in the USA. This being the case, how do we learn about taking care of babies and the elderly? How do we learn to cope with giving care to either age? What replaces that joy of giving and receiving from those age groups? Dogs fill in some of the gaps.

The big change in dogs has only taken place in Christian countries.
