Because Spirit Said So

About this ebook
Claire will introduce you to her world standing at the edge of the veil. She will help you to experience the emotions transmitted from the Spirit World. Sometimes our loved ones who have crossed over are passionately trying to right wrongs committed in their last lifetime. Sometimes they just want us to know that life continues beyond the mortuary icebox. The play The Table gives us the most wonderful news of all; our loved ones can still communicate with us.
The Foundation is the story about a murdered peddler in upstate New York. This play is written from the eyes of the victim, Charles osna. Charles sold sewing fabrics and needlework trinkets door to door in 1848. Bad weather and physical exhaustion led him into a false sense of security. He passionately wanted to bring his murderer to justice. This is a true story. Your author combed the archives of the Lily Dale Library and the 1848 newspaper microfiche in the Rochester, NY library searching for proof. She researched census records and inspected numerous graveyards; but, the very best information came from the spirit rapper himself.

FOREWORD
The interest in the practice of spirit communication has existed as far back as we can trace to the ancients. The interest in spirit communication was renewed on March 31, 1848, when two young children recognized the breaking of the sound barrier between the two worlds by acknowledging the disturbances in the Hydesville Cottage and in particular, the systematic rappings of the murdered peddler.
By a simple snap of the fingers, the youngest child, Katie, aged 9, received a response from the unseen. Her sister, Maggie, age 11, chimed in to further the communication. Because their mother, Mrs. Fox has sat in séances with her family many years before, she knew exactly what to do. She distinctly asked questions of the unseen and received proof positive with the correct answers given by the unseen guest who seemed to be in the cellar.
Although many books have been written about the event, some in accurately; few plays are available. In the late nineteenth century a few plays were written but most of them are hidden in the archives in various buildings. The author has provided the capability of others acting out the story by writing this new play.
For the past 164 years, as an organized religion, Spiritualism has practiced the holy act of communication with the World of Spirit.
The Foundation beautifully displays the full story of the hamlet of Hydesville and the happenings at 1510 Hydesville Road, the home of John D. Fox and his wife and two young daughters.
The Table is a Spiritual play that clearly demonstrates just what takes place in a private session with a professional meeting. Along with the communication from the medium to the sitter, you will gain insight of the important knowledge about life here as well as hereafter. You will also come to understand how a spirit brings the message and identifies itself in various ways.
The author has accurately expressed spirit communication. After having read or witnessed both plays, you will without a doubt, start on a new journey in your life. Welcome to the world of Spirits and their communication through a medium.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Heart felt thanks to my friends and family who emotionally supported me through this writing and publishing process. Thank you Elly Summers for your words of encouragement. Special thanks to Marilyn Awtry and Carol Brown. They helped me do extensive research in the Lily Dale library and the Central Library of Rochester, NY. Thank you too for the memorable field trip traipsing all over private and public grave yards in upstate New York.
Marilyn’s help editing The Foundation kept me grounded and she helped me keep the play as historically accurate as possible. Marilyn is a fabulous Spiritualist teacher, author and publisher. Her enthusiasm and love for Spiritualism is infectious. Her book, The River of Life How to Live in The Flow is sold in many languages all around the world. This lady is our 20th Century Encyclopedia of Spiritualism.
Bruce and Lillianne Bowersock have been my dear friends for over 50 years. They lovingly created the book cover for me. They are not even Spiritualists; but, they captured the essence of this book in one gorgeous picture. Thank you for being there for me.
I am especially indebted to my husband, Frank Cribb for his unconditional love and support. You are the wind beneath my wings.
Thank you spirits and teachers at The Memorial Spiritualist Church of Norfolk, VA; my life dramatically changed when I learned to recognize and interpret the many messages the spirits were communicating. The basic principles of Spiritualism will always resonate within my soul.
These plays would not have been written at all if not for the inspiration of Wendy Wasserstein, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for The Heidi Chronicles. Her indomitable spirit reached across the veil and told me, if she could do it, I could too. Thank you Wendy, you were an inspiration to many at Calhoun School in the 60s and today you prove there are no dead.

The Table
A Spiritual Play
By Kathleen C. Cribb
Copyrighted 2007—PAu3-128-866
This play is a novella. None of the readings are adaptations or descriptions of actual readings. My spirit guides asked me to compose a piece of literature to share the essence of spirits’ messages from the afterlife. All of us have people we have lost to disease, accident or tragedy. Some of us believe that life and death are all there is. Wrong! Life is eternal. We are eternal. My daddy passed into spirit when he was only 42 years old. He left behind a wife and three teen-aged daughters. We love him and he loves us. My daddy has never stopped communicating with me on a regular basis. Like all good dads he allows me to make mistakes. He knows this is my life. This is my opportunity to learn, to grow and to serve. But when I get depressed he is right there filling up my car with his sweet Prince Albert pipe tobacco. He wraps my troubled soul in his loving arms and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am never alone. Our love ones living beyond the veil of vision want to assure us life is continuous. If we don’t get everything right in this life time it is more than just okay. It is perfect. They want to assure us we have all of eternity to find our way back to the core of God. They want to show us that all of life is in a state of reformation both on our plane of existence and on theirs. Isn’t it comforting to know your favorite aunt did not really die? A lot of people visit my church over and over again hoping they might hear from their son or mother or favorite aunt. I get to claim this story as my creation because I am the person typing the keys on my computer. It is best described as inspirational writing. The truth is my guides are channeling this information to you through me. I stay in a slightly altered state of consciousness and my guides show me little vignettes in my mind. I type into words the visions I receive. Sometimes they make me feel the experience just as I feel it in my physical life when I am giving readings. If any of the characters appear to be actual people from my current life cycle it is possible. I am human. We are all products of our past experiences. My guides want to use my memory banks to make points. As I go back to read what I’ve written I can see some similarities but not exact matches to any one person.
It is more like looking into a bowl of alphabet soup.
Each noodle letter looks different and at the same time they all look alike. In reality serving is all we need to do. Mutual love and respect for all entities is what we need to practice.
It is my honor and out of my devoted love for these wonderful spirits that I am writing this book.
Namaste, dear spooks in my room!
ACT ONE
Scene 1: THE FAIR
While the audience is being seated the organist or orchestra will softly play The Trumpet Séance.
Curtains are still closed and the theatre is dimly lit. A male announcer with a very deep voice is standing on the right corner of the stage in front of the curtain.
ANNOUNCER: Welcome viewers: Mediumship Saturday has been a monthly event at Memorial Spiritualist Church for over twenty years. Mediums donate their time and energy to sit at card tables to deliver spirit greetings. In these modern times we have changed the name to Psychic Fair in order to draw a crowd. After all this is a fund raising event for the church. If we placed a sign out on the lawn saying Mediumship Day no one would know what it meant. They might think we are selling clothes at a yard sale for medium sized women only.
This is a story about Claire and spirit entities using tables to communicate. She works one of these tables every month. Fortunately she has been doing it for so long that the church leaders allow her to pick where she would like her table placed. She always chooses the platform in the front of the church where the preachers speak and the vibration is the strongest. When it comes to understanding spirit readings the first order of business is choosing a spot where the vibrations flow freely and the spirits like to gather. Spirits love to collect on the stage or platform of a Spiritualist church.
Claire is a Cancerian baby boomer. She has medium brown shoulder length hair and hazel eyes. Claire is a bit of a chameleon. Her eyes change color depending on her mood and the color of clothing she happens to be wearing at the moment. In her youth she held a strong similarity to Jacqueline Kennedy. As far as the young men were concerned it didn’t hurt that she had a top heavy hour glass figure accentuated by an 18" waist-line. Now at the ripe old age of 60 due to high cheek bones; she has maintained moderately good looks, a medium frame and a playful heart.
The table has changed its appearance over the years too. The first table that ever communicated with Claire was made of wood and had a firm glossy cardboard top. If the legs didn’t fold inward you might have mistaken it for real furniture. The second was a hand-made pine hutch table located in Claire’s kitchen. The third table was an antique dressing table hiding in plain site at the church. Then of course the fourth is the over-worked and under-appreciated card table Claire uses today at Psychic Fair. This leads us to our story.
Lights come up now and curtains are drawn.
ANNOUNCER: Try to picture if you will please, an old stone church located in a very old section of Norfolk, Virginia. It is the second Saturday of the month at approximately one o’clock on a sunny spring day in 2007. Folks are gathering in the office and lyceum room to await their turns to meet with their medium of choice.
A few readers have tables set up in the background. Claire’s table is set up on the platform in the front of the church. On the card table she places a white table cloth, a small odorless candle and a note pad and pencil. A box of Kleenex
