    To Lee

    Your words are scattered

    Like stars against the night

    From your long years

    Brightness in your fading light

    Familiar now your even script

    On the envelope quickly ripped

Memory of the life you’ve lived

    Treasured as a precious gift

    In riotous India tongas rush

    60 years as yesterday

    Sailors brawl and lovers sing

    In debauched, deadly Tiger Bay

Love and loss and love again

Old soldier by a lonely grave

    Sam Helen’s legion’s marching by

    Words of beauty never die
