About this ebook

Reflections Of My Thoughts depicts a woman who is torn between her flesh, her spirit, and her underlying desire for freedom, strength, and the ability to dream again, represented by the unicorn, in whatever form it may be. However, her questions and desire for understanding who she believes she is with where she is in life ultimately lead her on a spiritual journey. It is an attempt to articulate the challenges that she faces with her flesh such as jealousy, lust, anger, true friendship, self-imagery, and faith. This is a story of a woman who learns that her ability to persevere through challenges, her real freedom, strength, ability to dream, and ultimately her identity comes not from her, rather, Jesus Christ who has sustained her even when she didn't realize or acknowledge He existed.

First and foremost, I give thanks to Christ, my brother, friend, and savior. Many of the poems would not exist had He not given the Spirit to reveal them.

Thanks to my mother, Brenda D. Christian, my original and authentic example of a woman of strength and endurance. To my father, Thomas L. Dent, I thank you for reminding me to keep God as my god and never let anyone or anything separate me from him. Jerry, thank you for supporting me no matter what.

To my brothers: Antoine, Tony, Anthony, Shawn, Jesse, Leonard, Elijah, Tommie and sisters: Desiree, CC, Lisa thank you for loving me… just because :-)

Bro. Roy, you constantly see the growth and change in me! Pastor and Minister Taylor, thank you both for always showing up on time to re-adjust my compass, enrich and encourage me! Bro. Danny you consistently remind me I am more than my mistakes. Thank you all for you girded me when I needed it most.

To all those who have loved and encouraged me with the patience and endurance to call me friend; whether we have been friends for more than 30 years or barely one, you have all left your imprint on my life, and I thank you.

So many of you repeatedly and unceasingly incited me not to hide my voice, to share my work, and not keep it for myself. This would not have happened without you!

Special thanks to Hezekiah M. Davidson for the amazing cover and DaniMorrisPhotography.com for the beautiful photos. Seaira, Dani, Deb, and Ashley thank you for your editing skills. Dorothy, I thank you for being there when I needed a sounding board. I came to all of you and you answered!!
