About this ebook
Mr. Silver, in his newest Ookie Brothers mystery, blends fantasy, time travel, intrigue, and outright horror in Journey to Evil: A Case of Sweet Revenge.
A sequel to his first mystery, The Vengeful Veterinarian, this new tale sees the return of Mr. Black, evil incarnate, who was thought by the Ookie brothers to be dead and long since burning in hell. But Pookie, Mookie, and Dookie are wrong, maybe dead wrong!
With the help of the most renowned detectives of their time, Sirs Prescott and Basil Youngblood, a chief inspector from Scotland Yard and a host of incredible characters from the present day USA and 19th century England, they seek to rid the world of Mr. Black, once and for all. Unfortunately, this powerful evil is out for sweet revenge and his diabolical scheme won't end until he destroys the Ookie brothers and everyone around them.
Mr. Silver's dog detectives always challenge the readers. Written for pre-teens, teenagers and young adults, his many followers have tried to solve the mysteries, but few do until the last chapter.

Author’s Note
Did you know that every reader, of any age, has immense power? It’s called imagination. My characters are dogs, but I want you to imagine them as full-fledged adults with human natures.
They are detectives with incredible capabilities even they don’t know they possess. So let your mind visualize Pookie, Mookie and Dookie—the Ookie Brothers Detective Agency.
Pookie tells our story.
Introduction
The phone was ringing off the hook in our home at Hilton Head, South Carolina. It was 2:35 a.m., and it was the red phone, to boot!
The red phone ringing meant immediate attention was required by the Ookie Brothers Detective Agency. Someone, somewhere needed Pookie, Mookie, and Dookie.
It all started with a unique, bizarre set of circumstances in real time and fantasy time. It turned into the solution to a potential major crime and an incredible mystery involving the Vengeful Veterinarian. We never planned to create a detective agency, but because of us, a horrible catastrophe was averted. We dogs did not seek fame, but it came with the territory, and now we are world famous.
Our real claim to fame came later, in solving what was called the unsolvable crime.
A wealthy couple disappeared from their yacht in Hilton Head Harbour. No bodies were ever found, an incredible and very suspicious suicide of their business manager followed, and blame was placed on that person. The case was quickly closed. But, believe it or not, the Ookie brothers, with the help of three twelve-year-old boys and a grandfather and grandmother, tracked down the criminals. From Washington to Mexico to Georgia and the Carolinas, relentlessly the detectives pursued the criminals, at everyone’s great risk.
Now, once again, the red phone was ringing, and I answered it. The Ookie brothers here. How can we help you?
A female voice said, On order from the president, the commandant of the Coast Guard will call you in fifteen minutes. It will be a secure line. Wake up your brothers.
PART 1
The Disappearance: 21st Century
Chapter 1
I immediately woke Mookie and Dookie, much to their dismay.
What in the world, Pookie!
Mookie exclaimed. I was dreaming of chocolate-chip cookies and cinnamon rolls.
If Dookie was dreaming, I thought to myself, it would be of software and iPods. He, of course, just grunted.
Pookie, this better be good,
he said.
It’s the red phone,
I told them. A critical call is coming in on a secure line from Washington in about ten minutes. Wake up, guys. This may be a new job, like it or not.
We all sat around the telephone with the speaker on, utilizing a safeguard listening device that Dookie developed. Dookie was known worldwide as a systems genius. We knew him as a brother who’d trip over his own paws, shy and sort of reclusive. Mookie, who was brave, athletic, mischievous, and smart as only a mutt could be, claimed Dookie was an alien from another world.
I guess I’m the leader of the pack, the intellectual one, friend to everyone, but strong-willed and a fighter for good over evil. Those words describe the Ookie brothers detectives.
The red phone rang, and we simply listened—we all had been through this several times before.
"I am Admiral Roscoe W. Wellington, US Coast Guard. I am speaking aboard the Circus Lines cruise ship BigTop. There has been a major incident on board this vessel, involving the disappearance of both humans and animals—namely show dogs and their handlers. It occurred at midnight last night and we believe a crime has been committed on the high seas. We are in international waters in the Caribbean Sea. Say roger if this message has been received."
Roger,
we said in unison.
"By order of the president of the United States, you are asked to board this ship ASAP. A plane will be at Hilton Head Airport in one hour to take you to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where you will be helicoptered to the ship and details will be explained. Answer affirmative if you received this message."
Affirmative,
we stated.
As the voice paused, I finally spoke up. Hey, Willie (our nickname for Roscoe), what the heck is going on?
I’ll explain it all, Pook, as soon as you get here. All I can say is, it’s a big one.
And with that, the phone went dead.
Chapter 2
We all slept on the plane ride to San Juan. There was no need for conversation, because no one else was aboard. As a matter of fact, we never saw a
