Author

Leo Uzoma

He was born in the harbour city of Portharcourt one of the then ancient Sonhgai empire in the late seventy's. As a youth, he was a talented soccer player which saw him over the shores of Africa down to the white man's land in pursuit of greener pastures. He had a successful soccer carreer in Belgium, Holland and Germany before the abrupt end of his professional status due to injuries. His stay in Europe from the age of sixteen brought him through hard, sad and lonely times which no teenager would gladly undergo. His struggle to survive and help his poor family in Africa gave him a positive instinct which shaped him into a brilliant and eloquent teller of stories. He brought together his far and wide experience of life's voyage and systematically put together this piece of entriging, fascinating and emotional story of love, greed, hope, passion, tragedy. Here, Leo demonstrated the strong combination of natural and supernatural powers. The things we see in life are the illusions of the reality of life. He put together every possibility of hope and happiness and shine on it a bright light. As a top sportsman who never gives up till the whistle is blown, he demonstrated how good things comes to those who waits and that even amongst us here on earth there are still gods. From his childhood, he had always been a good listener of stories and would tell the same stories in a modified version that kept his audience amazed. This book may be his first but will by no means be his last.

We all have been disappointed in our own various ways.

Jobs, friends or family, finance or love disappointments, marriage or religious disappointments, even the disappointment of not buying that child the candy you promised, we all have been disappointed one way or the other. Life in many occasions does not hand us the tools that we need in order to live, so what do we do? We get into this unending tussle and struggle to squeeze out of life the tools necessary for our survival and still it does not get any easier and that’s why only the ‘STRONG’ survives.

Have you ever heard the story of the swinging spider? When I was 9 yrs old, my grandpa told me the story of the swinging spider. I had always wondered how these amazing eight footed bugs get from one wall to the other, amazing!

When my maximum ability cannot even my minimum objectives, goals and expectations in life… that is disappointment! I was made a man far before I became one so I inherited my World, I didn’t make it… the words of a great poet and rapper of the 20th century, Lesane Crooks a.k.a Tupak Amaro Shakur.

I have learnt not to go down without a struggle… not to give up without a challenge… not to bow down and fade off without confrontation.

Since disappointment have become the way of my life, I have stared straight into the mirror through my own eyes into that dark soul and hark thou ill fated luck… for you have been weighed and found wanting!

Failure I will fight with persistence!

Bravery is the acknowledgement of fear but not submission onto it.

The sun came up a little early that day in Antwerp, the prehistoric city of Belgium. The sky as blue as it was had lots of promises for the day. Patches of the cloud hovered across the face of the heavens. The clatter of cars and trams mêlée in the air as people despatched to their various places of work. It was a kind of morning that is termed a beautiful and sunny morning.

The rays of the sun that struck the window reflected into the bedroom, caressing the face of Mr Collins. He squeezed his eyes and rolled over to the other end of the bed in a bid to evade the torture of the sun rays. Suddenly he leaped up, he had been awaken from his sleep by that radio alarm, it was as loud as a high school bell of the nineteenth century signalling the end of a midday recess. Mr Collins hastily got up and wiped his sleep away from his eyes; he reached out for the alarm and turned it out.

Mrs Collins was sleeping away in peace close to him, she was also serene an attribute by nature. She had been rather ignorant of all that noise that had ensued, her ear pads made sure of that.

    I wonder how she does that, he said. He leaned over her and poked her with a finger and said;

Get up woman lets get ready to go. He is the type who would not afford to be late to an appointment when it concerns money.

She turned around slowly, with a calm voice she said

Darling, can’t we stay in bed for a while. She stretched out her arms still struggling with drowsiness; it’s a wonderful morning she sniggered as she struggle to open her eyelids.

A good morning it will be if you will get out of the bed we are going to be late like the other day he said huskily.

Collins had prepared endlessly for today and nothing was about to come between him and his moment. I’m trying but my stomach… this pain is growing strong everyday, she complained. They have been married for years but her barrenness have prevented her from the accomplishment of every woman’s dream, a child.

She had been to many hospitals, many operations, many prescription but still it remained a mystery. He did not care a lot, he had other things in mind, and he’s certainly not worrying for a child now.

You’re what! He said on an intensed voice. I told you we should see a doctor but you won’t listen. We should head for one now he said but he would rather not do that on a day he had set aside for himself. Darling, this is not a good symptom; the pain goes from my abdomen to my gullet. I hardly slept last night. She told him. That’s it! Take a shower we’re going to the hospital, he said cunningly. Nothing is as vital as money to him. He was not about to miss his contract rendezvous and somehow she knew that… . Oh no darling, firstly we should attend this meeting, I know how important it is to you. We’ll discuss about the hospital later when we get back, she gave him a kiss and head for the bathroom.

Mr Collins hurriedly took a bath, clothed himself as presentable as possible and posed himself in the car as he waited for his wife. She finally emerge, she walked
