    A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN ZAKI-BIAM

Men and women gaily dressed head to church with children in tow.

Young boys and girls adorn their best clothes

    Marching boisterously in animated chatter.

It is the most colorful day in town.

It is Sunday in Zaki—Biam, the two legged town of yam and enjoyment.

There is no arduous pushing of wheel barrow loads

Of yam tubers in the dusty yam market today.

No bumpy rides on the rugged bush roads

Trucking endless pick-up loads of yam to the market.

    No half-naked men oozing sweat

From heaving chests and throbbing muscles.

No yam tubers flying hand to hand

Into the gaping bosoms of 911 trucks.

Nobody will make money from yam today.

Not sellers, porters, loaders or even truckers.

    It is Sunday, the most
