INTRODUCTION
I can think of a hundred different times, dates and occasions when I would have liked to be surprised with a limousine. On my 30th birthday … on my 40th birthday. when I became a grandmother., or how about just a good special occasion!
I love my husband dearly, but his timing for gifts is awful. I had just gotten a new job working as a Spanish teacher in a private school and on the second day of school I came down with the worst flu. It was flu season in November. This bout with the flu lasted me 7 weeks; 3 of which I was in bed, flat on my back. It was the 3rd week of my flu that I got this great surprise. Any other time I would have been running and jumping, but it was all I could do to create energy for myself to sit up in bed!
At first; when I got the news, I thought my husband was just kidding with me to get me to look lively again, but I knew it was for real when he told me we needed to drive to Tacoma to pick it up from the seller. I knew that he would not have me drive to Tacoma as poorly as I was feeling with my bones feeling like cracked ice. But it was for real and so off we went.
We arrived and the car was just beautiful and classic. It was just a dream car. This was a 1989 Lincoln 105 inch stretch limousine, with burgundy velvet seats. The body was in wonderful condition but looking like it needed a woman’s touch. My husband had bought it for $6,000.00 and for what we could see it looked like it was well worth it. The seller told me that this car had come from Beverly Hills and I could see that by the tag on the metal. He also told me that John Candy (now deceased) was a frequent client of this car as also Bob Hope and Sophia Loren had been a couple of times.
After my husband finalized the paperwork and the keys were in my hand I began to be a little nervous about driving such a long car home, but I reminded myself that I have driven a 26 foot long U-haul up the side of a mountain in snow, at night. If I could do that, I could certainly get this limo home on the freeway. And I did. It was a little scary but I would soon be backing this long long car down my driveway as if I had been doing it all my life.
While driving home, I thought to myself so what exactly are the things I can do with this car?
The realities were about to begin..
