    INTRODUCTION

Psalm 122:1 I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord.

CHURCH ATTENDANCE HAS been declining for over the last few years in the United States and other developed western countries. While statisticians cite many reasons for the decline, what is sure is that the general population has less interest in organized Christian church activity. At the same time, spirituality seem to be on the rise. Some people equate church attendance with religion, but not with being spiritual.

Many Christians are a part of this trend. However, this is dangerous for believers, and for Christianity at large. Fellowship in a local church produces spiritual growth, ministry development, protection from false doctrines, motivation to keep the faith, and encouragement in the time of persecution. Furthermore, the local gathering of believers is often the catalyst for revival and growth in the body of Christ. In this prophetic time in which God has promised world revival, Christians need to faithfully gather in their local assemblies. The greatest spiritual atmosphere on the planet is among the gathering of Bible-believing, Holy Spirit filled believers.

Universally, the church is the entire body of Christ worldwide. All true believers in Jesus Christ are connected in one church. However, locally, the church is a gathering of believers in the body of Christ for fellowship, Bible study, prayer, worship, equipment for ministry, ministry to each other, and participation in Christian sacraments (Lord’s Supper and Baptism).

Every believer needs to belong to and faithfully attend a local church. The local church is a home for believers. In-house blessings are benefits that God has reserved for the gathering together of the saints. Believers need a commitment to a local church home to receive the ministry of fellow believers and ministry leaders, and to also participate in ministering to others. The failure of a believer to faithfully attend a local church
