About this ebook

On the Rocks is the story of my journey through the death of my marriage, and the days, weeks and years that led up to to the hot summer day when my husband announced that he wanted a divorce.

From the outside, it looked like we had it all: happy, healthy kids, successful careers, a beautiful home in the country, cars and toys and travel. On the inside, we had physical and emotional abuse, addiction to alcohol, little lies and bigger ones, and an affair that shattered whatever trust I even had left. In the end, I learned the hard way that we can't trust anyone else until we learn to trust ourselves, and the voice that speaks inside all of us.

"You did such a good job of conveying how you were feeling. I think a lot of women will be able to relate and I think it can also help other women who will be nodding their heads, saying “Amen” while reading it! LOVE! ‘A real father would not watch his wife leave her children when he should have been the one to go.’ I found myself saying out loud and in tears, “So true!” - J.M.

Erika Daniels

Erika Daniels is the pen name that represents a single, divorced, mother of three who lives in the boondocks of the Midwest. All my life I have wanted to write a book, but I never felt like I had the life experience to do it, until now. Unfortunately, I had to earn it the hard way. I started this book 3 days before I left on a 10-day vacation to Mexico. I had written 3,000 words at that time. By the time the plane touched down at home, I had written over 33,000. Within a week, the book was done, just 30 days later. I had no idea how easily the words would come. Thanks to my first best friend, Jess, who grew up down the street from me and was the very first person I shared this work with. As kids, we rode our bikes and swam at the pool, and when the sun went down we played “Kick the Can” and “Ghosts in the Graveyard,” stealing kisses and claiming our first boyfriends. We lived in a neighborhood full of boys, which I’m still convinced is what made us the smart, strong and amazing women we are today. She read the book in just over 6 hours. In her feedback to me, she told me she sees a sequel in my future. I say, only if it’s a love story. Thanks to my kids, for their love and patience with me, as I have evolved into more of myself and away from the woman and mother I never wanted to be. Thanks to God for unanswered prayers. I have always been a spiritual person, but during this experience I started going back to church, lectoring, and teaching religious education classes. I truly believe everything happens for a reason, and the contents of this book are proof of that. My hope is to help other women like myself, women who have survived abuse, addiction, dishonesty, disrespect or the infidelity of a partner. May this book provide the courage to change the things you can, knowing that someday you may experience a better life.
