About this ebook

My good friend, Onyechi Daniel, is an internationally-known teacher. He is passionate believer, a loving husband and father. But he is also a credible scholar, a persuasive communicator, and a man of God who walks with integrity. I think I have every one of his books. I always find them to be mentally stimulating and spiritually enlightening. I receive new revelation and strength from each one. I highly recommend Faulty Foundations - the unseen problems to you. Read it, and be blessed! - Eddie Smith, President, U.S. PRAYER CENTER, Houston, TX, USA.

What dose the Bible actually mean when it says that ...old things have passed away?... Have we misunderstood the scripture: ...The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the childrens teeth are set on edge. As I live, says the Lord God, you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel... (Ezek. 18:2-3). Can evil done in a particular environment bring problems to the innocent inhabitants of that environment? Can a Christians life be affected by the past sins and abominations done by him and his ancestors? Can a person or family still be in captivity after being born again? Why should a Christian still suffer from prolonged sickness, delay in marriage, bareness, threat of death, poverty and near-succes syndrome? Are all curses broken spontaneously when we become saved? This book is studded with revelations on the significance of spiritual foundations - it shall settle the controversy once and for all.

Eddie Smith

Born six weeks early, during the War years, life never got any easier. This lead to a biography of his birth and early years and was documented in a booklet called "The Life and Times of Eddie Smith", published by Anne Bradford of "Hunt End Books". This true account of his life follows on from where, at the age of 16, he joined HM Forces, at which point a series of events—unintended and mostly humorous—gave the impression that he could be a security risk.

Dedication

I dedicate this book to those who are called to be deliverers; who are prepared to dig deep to bring liberation to individuals, families, communities and nations.

Acknowledgements

Even though I went through mentorship in ministry, the area of ministry which will be largely covered in this book, is an area where I was not mentored by any man. I therefore acknowledge that the Holy Spirit Himself gave me depths of revelations, and used bits and pieces of information I gathered from here and there to teach me and equip me for the ministry of dealing with faulty foundations.

May I lovingly appreciate my wife for believing in my ministry, and for lending prayer and other support as I wrote this book. I thank my children for showing understanding in letting me be alone with God often, as I pursue my ministry.

I will like to sincerely thank all those who have served in my ministration team—a lot of the revelations written in this book became clearer to me as we worked together.

My gratitude goes to Dr. Steve Ogan for his usual thorough approach in editing this work. I am indebted to Eddie Smith for finding time from his busy schedule to write a glowing foreword.

My appreciation also goes to Onyinyechi Ezeulo and Gold Azubuike for type-setting this work, and to all who contributed one way or the other towards the making of this book. Worthy of special mention is the contribution of my dear friends, Pharm. and Mrs. Ike Onyechi. May God bless and reward you all abundantly.

Foreword

If the Christian life is so wonderful, then why are you having such a hard time living it? Why should the journey to heaven be so difficult? It may well be because you have built your life thus far on faulty foundations. And the book you are holding in your hands right now could well be your doorway to victory over past abuses, wounds and betrayals; unforgiveness, resentment and bitterness, satanic accusation, self-condemnation and uncontrollable sins, and other bondages. Sounds like a miracle cure? Not really. But it could very well be the tool that God has provided for you to rebuild the foundations of your new overcoming, more-than-a-conqueror life; the life that you were intended to live!

Very few ministers would dare to try to write a book like this. Why? Because very few of us, even those of us in ministry for many years, have taken time to discover these truths and process them into our own lives. Further, to write a book exposing faulty foundations in life and ministry presupposes that your own life and ministry is built on a proper foundation.

Brother Daniel is not only an anointed prophetic evangelist and author, but he is a man of principle. He has lived the pages of this book. This is not mere theory to him. He has worked these principles out in the laboratory of his own life—and assisted thousands around the world to do the same. He has done his research and has scripturally documented every point he makes.

God has called you into the ministry of reconciliation by reconciling you to Himself. However, you cannot minister reconciliation to others until you’ve been reconciled to your own past. This means making peace with your past, breaking generational iniquity from your life, reconciling damaged relationships with your family and friends, making financial restitution by paying debts that you’ve left unpaid, freeing yourself from past occult involvement, and renouncing past sins. It’s about breaking contracts that you’ve made with Satan and taking back ground that you’ve yielded to him. You see, many are saved but are not yet free. And as long as you are in bondage you cannot glorify God or set others free.

Perhaps the best part of this book is that we (readers) are not left wondering what we are to do. He takes us step-by-step through the entire process of personal deliverance, which is our sanctification.

WARNING: This book will not be easy to read. Why? It will not be easy to read because the enemy cannot afford to sit idly by and allow you to absorb these truths. He knows the kingdom potential you possess better than you know it. He will distract you in every possible way. So, you must discipline yourself. This is war! You must set aside appropriate times and places to read this book. And read it with paper and pen in hand. This is more a process than it is a reading assignment. It is the process of rising to the resurrected life God has intended for you to live since before the foundations of this world! It’s time to rid yourself of faulty foundations!

INTRODUCTION TO SPIRITUAL FOUNDATIONS

F oundation is defined as the basis on which something stands, or is supported (Longman family Dictionary). Foundation is that part of a structure, institution, organisation, movement, that is not seen or easily appreciated, yet it is of paramount importance in determining the life, health, growth and development of the entity being considered. For the purpose of our discussion ‘foundation’ can be interchanged with the word ‘root’.

‘Root’ is defined as the underground part of (a flowering plant) that usually anchors and supports it, or something that is an underlying cause or basis (e.g. of a condition or quality)—Longman Family Dictionary.

Godly foundations are established when the word of God (and its principles) is the structure upon which an individual’s life, marriage, family, church, business, community, nation, or government stands. Jesus said:

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock (Matt. 7:24-25, emphasis mine).

Please note that these sayings of mine in the above scripture refers to the doctrines of Jesus Christ. Remember also that the doctrines of Jesus are exactly the words of God the Father. Jesus answered them and said, ‘my doctrine is not mine, but His who sent me. If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on my own authority (Jn. 7: 16-16).

In other words, the doctrines which when adhered to give rise to strong and unshakable foundations are the doctrines of God the Father—this is what is revealed in the Holy Bible. Put more clearly and firmly: only the application of the principles of the Bible can lead to strong foundations—in an individual’s life, marriage, family, church, business, community, nation, government or in any institution!!!. This explains why the subject of foundations is all encompassing. God’s blessings flow spontaneously to the lives of individuals, institutions and things that are built on the word of God.

Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God: (Deut. 28:1-2, emphasis mine).

Samples of these blessings are listed in Deut. 28:3-13

Similarly, faulty foundations are established when we fail to adhere to the principles of the word of God as the structure upon which a person’s life or any institution stands. Jesus said:

But everyone who hears these sayings of mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall (Matt. 7:26-27).

Negligence to apply the principles of the Bible would lead to collapse!!!. But you may say that some individuals, institutions and things not built on the word of God are still standing. Yes. They may still be standing until the shaking comes! And the rain descended and floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it fell. From now till the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ the world would be witnessing what I will call ‘THE GREAT COLLAPSE’. We shall see great individuals, great churches and ministries, great corporations, great institutions and great nations collapse!!! God has already given the world a foretaste of this, with the collapse of the great Idi Amin of Uganda, Mobutu of Zaire, Marcos of Philippine, Papa Doc of Haiti and the great Saddam Hussein of Iraq. The Berlin wall, communism and the great Soviet Union, and the World Trade Centre (W.T.C.) building have all collapsed. Towards the end of year 2003 and early 2004 the world witnessed the collapse of great business conglomerates—some are still in the process of collapsing, eg. Parmalat (great makers of dairy products), Levi (greatest makers of jeans), Enron (great electrical company of U.S.A), etc. There is a prophecy in the old testament that is now in the process of being fulfilled; the next few years would witness a gathering momentum in this process.

". . . Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying: I will shake heaven and earth, I will overthrow the throne of Kingdoms; I will destroy the strength of the Gentile Kingdoms . . ." (Haggi 2:21-22).

The foundation is the single most important part of a building, yet it is not normally visible or easily appreciated. A building may have impressive architectural designs, with the best painting, modern roofing, and nice furnishing. But if it has a faulty foundation, cracks will develop followed by a great fall. In some scriptures of the New Testament the Church has been likened to a building. Paul wrote to the Corinthian Church as follows: For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field; YOU ARE GOD’S BUILDING (ICor. 3:9, emphasis mine). Apostle Peter also wrote concerning the Church: "you also, like living stones are being built into a SPIRITUAL HOUSE . . ." (1Peter 2:5, emphasis mine). Also writing to the Ephesian church, Apostle Paul said: We are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself (Eph. 2:20, NLT). This last scripture explains the root of the problem of many churches, and why the scriptural promises and guarantees given by Jesus Christ concerning the Church do not seem to work. Judging from Ephesians 2:20, the two root problems of many of the present day churches is that they are not built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets; and Jesus Christ is not the cornerstone! Paul said emphatically that no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid which is Jesus Christ (1Cor. 3:11). May I repeat for the sake of emphasis that many of the existing church ‘organizations’ are not built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, neither is Jesus Christ their cornerstone or foundation!! The primary problem of the churches therefore is the problem of faulty foundation!!!

You can now see why Jesus’ primary guarantee to the Church in Matthew 16:18 may not work: THE GATES OF HELL SHALL NOT PREVAIL AGAINST IT (KJV). The reason is that Jesus Christ has not been allowed to build His Church. The Church to which the divine guarantee (above) applies is the Church which Jesus Christ Himself has built—not that which is built on the foundation of the whims, caprices, philosophies and schisms of men. We must understand the condition upon which the Lord Jesus Christ gave the guarantee that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church. He said: I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matt. 16:18, emphasis mine). Unless we allow Jesus Christ to build the Church; unless the Church is built on the foundations of the apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ as the Chief cornerstone, the gates of hell shall continue to prevail against churches!!!. The enemy would continue to prevail against the church even if we continue to quote and claim the above scripture of Matthew 16:18. This is because the Bible asks: If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? I believe that we would have seen greater defeat and disgrace of the Church, judging by the faulty foundations if not for the fact that God is mindful of His name that has been called over the Church. He is therefore protecting the Church for His name’s sake—much like what he said in Isaiah 48:11. "I will rescue you for my sakeyes, for my own sake! That way, the pagan nations will not be able to claim that their gods have conquered me. I will not let them have my glory!" (NLT).

When a building development has gone too far in error because of a faulty foundation, it will be too dangerous to continue. The only alternative will be to totally pull it down, dismantle the old faulty foundation and start a new structure with attention given to correct details. I see a good part of the present Church system collapsing. I see the Roman Catholic and many other church denominations, including many pentecostal denominations collapsing. This is to give way for the emergence of a truly victorious Church, where Jesus Christ is truly the Chief Cornerstone. In January 2003, I spoke in the ‘Global Prayer quake’ Ministers Prayer Network conference that brought thousands of delegates from about six (6) continents of the world. While speaking on the topic: ‘Five-fold offices of Christ and the Pastor’ I advocated a total over-hauling of the Church system to return to Bible standards—not an adjustment or renovation—if we must see a truly unstoppable Church born. In one of the prophecies that the Lord gave us in September 2002, He said that transition and revolution are inevitable. The prophecy was recorded thus: There must be a transition. Transitional programme must take place. The old must be phased out so that I can do what I want to do. What did I say? The old must be phased out so that I will do what I want to do . . . ask me for Isaiah 32:15. Let my children who know how to pray, who know how to call on the name of the Lord concerning the Church and nation, take up this knowledge that I am giving to them. Tell them to pray that I will pour out my Spirit upon the entire nation. I want to pour out the Spirit that will release men. I want to pour out the Spirit that will bring men up; I want to pour out the Spirit that will equally judge men. I want to pour out my Spirit for then you will have a revolution.

The two major challenges of the 21st century Church are:

1. Raising leaders who will allow God to use them to build Church congregations or movements that would
