FOREWORD
In this enlightening study, Dr Felix Shikaputo has succeeded in providing all the essentials for fulfilling the potential that God wants his people to achieve. In seven succinct chapters he reminds us of God’s desire for us to live the fulfilled life, and how we can achieve that aim. He takes us back to scripture, and on the basis of God’s word explains such central Christian concepts as the new birth, eternal life, forgiveness of sins, imputed righteousness, the grace of sonship and the like. This is not just a book on ‘religion’. In fact he emphasises the fact that Christian faith goes beyond religion and all outward forms in order for men and women to experience their full humanity as God intended. Although there is much here on a ‘felt’ faith, he never downplays the life of the intellect in the Christian life, reminding us that we need to be renewed ‘in our minds’ (Romans 12:2) as a key to being renewed in our hearts. Knowledge of God is something which is open to all, on the basis of scripture and through a discipline which is also a gift. Neither is the Christian believer left on his or her own, but within the family of faith we become ambassadors of the Kingdom wherein society too will fulfil the goal for which it has been created. The Holy Spirit is given by a God who wants the best for his children, and has promised to bless them to the uttermost. By reading this book, taking its contents to heart and living the life that God intended, we too will fulfil our potential. It is a pleasure to commend such a practical, wise and clearly written volume.

INTRODUCTION
In this book, I seek to discuss the potential that lies within every child of God who is born of the Spirit. It is my intention to discuss some of the potentials available to everyone born of God, so that we can live a life that is totally above the ordinary, and be able to effectively fulfil God’s destiny for our lives. In doing so, it’s important from the very beginning to understand that a Christian is totally different from what the world would have us think. The world has categorised Christianity as one of the religions of the world, but true authentic, Biblical Christianity has never been a religion. Jesus did not come to introduce another religion, there were already too many. He brought us something higher than any religion can offer. The Bible says, I am come that they might have life and have it to the full
(John 10:10). Our effectiveness as believers lies in the fact that we come to a place of knowing by revelation who we are in Christ and the potential that lies within us.
What is Potential?
We begin by defining the word potential: It is having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future. It is referred to as latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness. It is a possibility of something happening or someone doing something in the future. Potential is all you can do but have not yet done. It is what you can accomplish but have not yet accomplished. It is what you are but have not yet become. For example if I held a mango seed in my hand, I could say, potentially I am holding a tree capable of becoming a forest. To that effect, it is important that people do not judge you by outward looks because you are greater than an optic eye can see. On one occasion, God sent Samuel to the house of Jesse to anoint a king for him. Samuel almost placed the anointing on the wrong person simply because of what he saw outwardly, but God reminded him that man sees the outward appearance but God sees from the inside.
We often had that God speaks to our potential. He doesn’t see us as we are but for what we could be. Therefore, he is able to call those things that are not as though they were (Rom. 4:17). You recall the time God called Gideon a mighty man of valour, he did not see himself as such (sometimes we don’t even know what we are capable of becoming in life, but God does) yet God always speaks to our potential and once we believe and accept what he calls us to be, we can rise up and change this world for Christ. It was Robert Schuller who said, If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been
.
Today we have an identity crisis in the world but the sad part is that even God’s people don’t seem
