This book is dedicated to all the people who hold dear a place in their hearts for Mary, the Mother of God, and to those who do not know, ignore, reject, or deny her. May they believe, by the time they finish reading this book that our Lady was, is, and will ever be the Holy Mother whom God holds dear to His sacred heart.
THE CALLS
It was almost midnight. My family and I had just returned home from a ten-day trip to Australia. Going through the kitchen to turn the light on, I was surprised by the frenetic blinking of the answering machine. I decided to wait till later to check the messages. I had so many things to take care of just then. All those messages could wait for one or two days, I thought. By the time we emptied the car and unpacked some bags and suitcases, it was too late to do anything else but to go to bed after such a tiring, but enjoyable trip. Perhaps half an hour into a troubled sleep, while tossing and turning, I thought I heard a bang. I jumped from my bed and ran downstairs to check the origin of the sound. Not finding any trace of the culprit, and being unable to get back to sleep at this late hour of the night, I decided to check
the messages while everything was still and quiet in the house.
The first message was from my mother, who lived in Lebanon, a tiny country on the Mediterranean Sea in the Middle East. Her tone of voice was excited:
Hello Diane, I cannot wait to tell you the good news! You have to listen carefully.
My mother’s voice was animated but a bit shaky. "A dear friend of mine is coming to visit you for one day. She will
give you all the information about the fami "
The message was cut off suddenly. How come,
I thought, my mom did not mention the identity of this guest?
She was being purposely mysterious, I thought, or perhaps in her excitement, she forgot to mention the name of the guest? I wanted to know more.
The second call was also from my mother. It went this way: Hi honey, I forgot to tell you about the special guest. She is amazing! I love her to death. She is a mother, a confidante, a friend. She is out of this world! There is nobody like her.
Again the message was cut off.
The third message went this way: Hi honey, please give your guest all the time she needs. Prepare everything for her. Don’t forget anything, be ready.
You will learn so much from her and try to ask her anything you want. She will be able to help you especially with the problem you talked to me about before your trip."
The fourth call said, "Don’t forget to cook the best gourmet dishes. Use the best tablecloth... Although my friend is not demanding, she deserves the best treatment. You will see
