      Mom, can you write me a story about a dragon?

      Those are the words that started it all.

      My children are truly an inspiration to me throughout my journey in writing this book. I dedicate this book to my children - CoriLynn, Lexi, and Caden. I love you with all my heart.

      The project started in a reading course during my junior year in college. My huge family has been there with support throughout my college experience and they have helped guide me to where I am today. Thank you all for the love and support you have given me. I love you all so much.

      Screeching

      I’m Charlie. I grew up loving the outdoors and would love to spend all of my time outside—people always said I was quite rambunctious. Most days, I would hide from my mother from the time I woke up until after dark, spending my days in the fields instead of in the washing-house. If I wasn’t helping with the crops, I was down at the fishing hole. The boys didn’t mind; I may have been a girl, but I could keep up with the best of them.

      Every now and then, I would explore the forest. One day, as I ambled through the trees, I heard a dreadful sound coming from a small cave. The shrill screech pierced my ears. Once the sound faded I ventured closer to the cave. The
