Beyond the Eclipse: Stories of Life, Loss, and Hope
()
About this ebook
Visualize the brilliance of the sky illuminating lifeuntil a brief moment thrusts one onto a path not chosen.
Mirroring an eclipse, the summer sun disappears behind a circle of darkness as a young man faces his foe of cancer. The hands of time cease their journey as questions go unanswered and prayers seem unheard.
There is One who does hear, thoughOne who stands in that darkness. God knows that the eclipse will come and the world will be without light. His plans will unfold as the sun once again slips into view. It happened at the cross; it still happens today
Gently tucked within these pages are stories created from such a time. For those who mourn, those who seek, those who feel the sun will never again shine, Beyond the Eclipse beckons.

About the Author
Introduction
My inspiration to create words upon lines of paper oftentimes occurs in the dark of night, perhaps the optimum time to hear what God places upon my heart.
My journey began when we lost our nineteen-year-old son, Adam, to cancer. Creating this book became God’s gift when a future so secure had vanished and the road leading toward tomorrow was no longer bathed in light. I discovered within my spirit that unspoken words still held messages of hope and encouragement. Adam’s photograph on a perfect summer’s day became the catalyst for the first story, The Young Fisherman.
It was my prayer as I penned the words tenderly held upon these pages that solace, wisdom, strength, and even forgiveness would belong to the reader, that the God of the universe would reveal those luminous strands of joy that exist beyond sorrow and loss.
As days become years, the beloved sun has once again slipped into view, revealing its brilliance as impenetrable darkness moves silently away. Beyond the Eclipse becomes the perfect illustration of the times when life comes full circle.
Chapter 1
Beyond the Eclipse…
Where Comfort Is Received
Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
—Matthew 5:4

The photograph lovingly held in a frame of silver stands silently on the bedside table. It captures for all eternity the young man and his fish. The sky seems to reach down and caress the wind-tossed hair as the clouds but for a moment are still. The familiar khaki shorts, the bare feet, the boats moored in the background—all part of an endless summer day.
Perhaps the picture is so cherished because that day did end. The sunshine that was captured on film became elusive as the young man faced his foe of cancer. It was a battle hard fought, but the victory was not to be his. As I ponder the photograph of a son forever nineteen, I begin to see far beyond that summer’s day.
In the treasured whisper, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men
(Matthew 4:19), I am blessed to watch the promise unfold. You see, the quiet faith that gently held our young fisherman struck a chord deep within those whose lives he touched. They watched the road he was called to travel and saw strength only his God could give. On the darkest of days they became transformed by memories of a life worth living.
Because of his journey and unwavering faith, Adam truly became a fisher of men long after this photograph was taken. Friends who surrounded him in those last days blessed each of us with their comforting presence as they in turn found solace. His beloved sister wrote
