Baggage: Packing for Your Spiritual Journey
()
About this ebook
Can a Christian become the person God has created him to be?
Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Imagine your mind as a suitcase into which you are packing items in to go on a trip. Do you have the right items, such as ideas, concepts, and beliefs? Does your life reflect the attributes of Jesus?
Come along on a spiritual journey. We will unpack the items that are not needed and repack the items that are essential for our spiritual walk with God. Begin a new journey today by allowing the Holy Spirit to change you.

About The Author
This book is being dedicated to my daughters, Tina Goldsmith, Tammy Smith, son-in-law, Kenny Smith, the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Knowing how much I love each of them and have their interest first, has made me realize, how much more God loves and wants the best for me.
I want to give a special thanks to my grandson, Matthew Smith, who took the time during his heavy work season to design the front and back of this book; to Jerry Carter for his encouragement and confidence in believing I could write a book; to a dear friend, Deronda Luther Boston, for recommending her husband, Ray Boston, to edit it before sending to the publisher.
BAGGAGE
Look at all this baggage
It gets heavier each day
I keep filling it with more and more
The sides begin to fray
The top is bulging over
The zipper will not zip
The wheels are falling off their track
The seams about to rip
But I keep adding to it
Making room for one more thing
Loading it down with too much stuff
Is there more I need to bring
Then a Friend knocks and I answer
He sees me in distress
He asks if He can help me
He sees it’s all a mess
He says, "Let’s open up your suitcase
And see what lies inside
We’ll look at every item"
I wanted to run and hide
But He looked at me with Love
Compassion on His face
He was only there to help
To offer me His Grace
As He took each and every item
He held it up and looked at me
I knew I didn’t need it
One by one I began to see
Each item in my suitcase
Had been put there through the years
Making it too heavy
Bringing me to tears
You see my Friend is Jesus
And He gently showed me how
To unpack my heavy suitcase
It’s so much lighter now
We took out the pride and envy
The greed and jealousy
We took out the heavy grip of fear
That so easily entangled me
We checked each and every pocket
We cleaned it through and through
With my suitcase finally empty
He showed me what to do
We didn’t leave it empty
We packed with love, peace, humility
The Fruit of His Spirit
Now my suitcase is complete!

INTRODUCTION
MANY BOOKS HAVE BEEN WRITTEN about many different things. Some are excellent and help us grow spiritually and closer to God. The Bible is where we gain our hope, strength, endurance and guidance for each day we live. But like others, I have a book to write.
I believe I have something to say that will help those who need to redirect their thinking and start a new walk with the Lord. God tells us His mercies are new every morning. That promise means whatever happened yesterday is gone and today is a new day.
In 1996, I dreamed of an old trunk filled with different items. Some were beautiful, but needed to be taken out and cleaned up. Others were old and tattered and needed to be thrown away. As I thought about the dream, it reminded me of things we have stored in our minds. Some items are good and some are bad. I thought of all the wonderful people, I have known over the years, who allowed issues from their past, to stop them from being the people God had planned them to be.
After having the dream, I started thinking about writing this book. At the same time I was getting ready to retire from the insurance business and move from California back to the Midwest. Needless to say, I got busy with other things and put the book on the lower shelf. But the Lord continued to bring thoughts to my mind. I would write them down and think, I need to write the book.
Then the enemy (Satan) would come along and say, What makes you think you can write a book?
‘Who are you and what do you know that would benefit anyone?’ During those times I allowed the enemy to steal the things God was saying to me.
One day I picked the pencil up and told my daughters that I was going to write a book. They were excited and thought it was a great idea. Later, I told a good friend about the book. From time to time, he would ask, Have you finished the book yet?
Finally I have finished this book.
I pray, as you read this book, that you will look into the hidden places of your mind to see what is stored away that does not need to be there. Take the bad out and dress your minds in good items.
LISTEN TO GOD
JUST AS THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL set out on their journey, we are on our own journey here on earth. The Israelites would rightly follow God for a while, then they would go on their own and out into the world. We do the same. We get up and we fall down, but we keep on going. We keep on going because of God’s love for us and our faith as believers in Him. Christians know that God will help them regardless of the circumstances they may face. We read of the Israelites and are amazed at what they did or did not do. Are we any different? I think not.
When we study the Bible and read of all the encounters the prophets had with God, we stand amazed that they would not be obedient to Him. We often hear people remark, that God was directing them. He will still direct us if we allow Him. Those who have accepted Jesus as our Savior have the power of the Holy Spirit living within us. He is there to help us be obedient children.
We have read the last book of the Bible. Have you read it? If not, I suggest you do it now. It tells of God’s final victory over evil at the end of time. In Revelation 1:8, we read, I am the Alpha and the Omega,
says the Lord God, the One who is, who was, and who is coming, the Almighty.
Those of us who are Christians serve a mighty God. And when we die, we will live with Him forever in heaven.
Now is the time to make your reservation, for the end time draws near. God tells us today is the day of Salvation. Please do not delay. We do not know the day or hour when God is going to send Jesus back to earth to take His children to heaven.
If you are a child of God, He never leaves you. If you choose to leave Him,
