From The Author
Q) William, what is the overall message of your book Grabbing Your Destiny by the Horns?
A) Dream big according to your God-given purpose. Do not stop at difficulties and grab your designed destiny. Have we started? Seriously? (laughs)
Q) Yes, I thought I would give you an easy one to begin with. Let me ask you, what is YOUR purpose and how did YOU find it?
A) The question of purpose varies from person to person and so is being able to fully understand it. Generally, our purpose is to glorify God by living out our lives fully, not in part. Personally, my purpose takes its root in God and I try to do my best with the abilities He has put within me to His praise and to the benefit of all.
Q) Living a life in part? What does that mean?
A) By living a life in part, I simply mean the instance when people do not utilize wholly their God-given abilities maybe because of difficulties. Some people stop midway on their journey to their designed place in life. This is living life in part. Trust me Nick, this is not glorifying in any way.
Q) So youve been there? You have experienced living life in part?
A) Sure! Thats why my desire to help all people realize that the power to accomplish within them is higher than any obstacle that tries to stop us.
Q) A reviewer said about your book that: [this book will show you] how to develop self-reliance and achieve your dreams. But what if you dont know what your dream is? Is living for God the dream all people should have?
A) Firstly, I appreciate those kind word describing my book and I thank whoever the person is.
There is a point in that review I would like to correct, though. I emphasize self-realization, hard work, focus, and of course, dependence on God as my faith teaches me.
Q) So your book really only focuses on God and how God can glorify a life?
A) Living for God is not the only dream people should have. The phrase dream life runs throughout my book and what I mean is the desire of your heart, your ambitions and all that you aspire to be in life.
Q) Your book relies heavily on the Bible for inspiration. Would you say that the Bible itself is a self-help guide?
A) No. No and no. Grabbing Your Destiny by the Horns is a book that seeks to help the reader realize that he is on earth for a purpose and that his talents, skills and abilities have been given to him so that life on earth can be more meaningful. All is attainable and possible if he marries correct action to the dreams of his heart. Nick, Im a bit uncomfortable calling it self-help. I would say the Bible and, for that matter, my book are inspirational and books that teach and enlighten. They teach self-realization, not self-help. It teaches ACTION on your part as well as mindfulness that all is of God.

Preface
What can I do to add meaning and betterment to my life? This has been the question I posed daily to myself, and I believe many people out there are interrogating themselves on this issue.
Inasmuch as life is full of questions of this nature, fact still stands that whatever we are and wherever we are today, our choices and responses to life’s situations contributed. The choices we made in the past and will make in the future constitute the quality of our lifestyle.
Will you move ahead or remain stagnant in life? Your future reality is totally dependent on your attitude and mind-set.
What’s left of the past may not seem enough to do much with; the future may look dim due to scarcity of understanding and readiness. Notwithstanding this, the just laws of life hold you responsible for how your time on earth is spent and what you do with what you have.
No excuses, therefore, are acceptable, as life provides room for enlightenment and maturity.
It’s yours to be good. It’s yours to be better. It’s yours to rise up to excellence and fulfilment of life and purpose.
As you move forward, challenges you never experienced before will show up—to add more thrill to the adventure.
A step at a time, and you will move closer and closer to your desired place in life.
In Grabbing Your Destiny by the Horns, I’d like to share with you some principles to help realize your dreams—principles I’m still learning.
If you are hungry for a purpose-driven life,
let’s begin the journey.
Acknowledgements
All of what we are is a sum total of all that we’ve learnt from people who have taught us in life. I am appreciative of the wisdom with which Pastor Michael Kwao showed me the ways of the Lord and the inspiration he infused into my heart.
For my personal development, I thank the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ for being my closest companion, wisdom, strength and hope for the future. I also feel a deep sense of gratitude to my mother, for sacrificing her all to provide me with formal education, and to Rosebond, for being there.
I am similarly grateful to all my friends who believed in me and stood in support of me in diverse ways, and to Greg Lopez, for fetching out some pearls of wisdom.
Chapter 1
Marked for the Ultimate
‘You are built not to shrink down to less but blossom into more.’
Oprah Winfrey
Somehow, whether we realize it or not, we have an inner craving, a burning desire, a longing to be in a position of recognition and importance. We mostly dream of the not yet birthed. We desire what we’ve not yet attained, and we yearn somehow for what we have not yet become.
Very few people put in efforts along the way to turn a longing into something tangible, a dream into a reality, thereby making sense of their lives. But for the masses, reaching goals is a Herculean task. Some, in their bid to look back upon their lives with smiles and not yet being able to exactly identify and call by name the cravings in their hearts, eventually end up missing out on God’s mind-set for them. This disappoints God and humanity, and they themselves live with the itching sense of ‘incompleteness.’
However, whether we attain the best we’ve always desired, are still struggling with our dreams, simply can’t figure them out clearly, or have ended up frustrated at not being able to make sense of our lives, the bottom line is this: each and every one of us, big and small, has been significantly endowed to accomplish great things.
Naturally, the Creator has planted desire in man to energize him into doing exploits. He has, with full intention, imbedded man with the longing to better his life, to live out to the fullest, and to impact—to be what He has purposed for him, which is to be the best he can be.
Therefore, it is right that we hunger for the ultimate, the very best. It’s likewise right to feel good about ourselves, should we finally find ourselves doing the very thing we’ve desired since childhood or get our hands on what we’ve always wanted.
On the other hand, it is right on purpose that we feel uneasy and incomplete, when we don’t reach our goals. It’s a feeling that’s not wrong in any way, seeing it comes with its own divine purpose of urging us on. This feeling is not to be considered a mistake. Our emotional and mental attitudes towards the course of our lives are deeply rooted in the biblical truth that we are created in the image of God (Gen. 1:27 NIV). We have certain character traits of God running through us. And as His people, we have certain thoughts of His making up ours as well. We feel a sense of His will, intentions, and purposes towards us, and this is the propelling mechanism deep down inside that creates the hunger to grasp our lives and mould them into the realities of our dreams. Scripture says, ‘He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure’ (Eph. 1:9 NIV).
We may succeed or fail along the way, but the fact surrounding our great possibilities remains true. It is as though we possess a DNA molecule that contains the very mind of God for our lives. This mastermind has been at work in your favour always, even from the very formation of your physical body, and runs through all the activities of your days on earth. Psalm 134:14-17 KJV declares,
‘I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto
