About this ebook

Is it our darkness or light that scares us most? The acceptance that things dont always turn out the way we imagine they would can make all the difference between giving permission to experience something better or living stagnant. Anyone who has experienced a blackout can relate to the initial lost feeling of being stripped of the things we tell ourselves we couldnt live without. When we are placed into that position, we realize the actual aspects that matter most to us. The stories are sincere accounts of fears and hopes that unfold in the wake of a power outage. Learn how good it feels to be honest, judge less, and appreciate more.

    Introduction

In 2006, a friend LE Salas challenged me to write a screenplay with him on the Blackout of 2003. He knew my sentiments towards technology creating a more and more impersonal human population. The premise was to tell the story of five relationships focusing on different reactions to the blackout: addiction to the computer age and work all under the theme of feeling trapped. He wrote two, while I wrote three of the stories. Being a self taught screenplay writer, my writing resembled that of a novel more than anything else. Life got in the way and our screenplay was packed away.

Six years later, after moving to a new place, while unpacking I was lead back to these stories. Instantly, I felt its relevance and simplicity were full of lessons. When the stories I had written were abstracted, they quickly transformed and became a story about empathy, forgiveness and longing. A power outage sometimes proves to be just the thing that turns the light on in us. Away from the many distractions we coexist surrounded by day to day. A Blackout quickly provides the opportunity to appreciate the silence as well as create profound memories with each other. People brought together under a warm and sincere candlelight has a way of generating such great reflection.

A black out occurs for all sorts of reasons, it is the loss of energy. The affected areas are the power generation, water supply, transportation, communication and industry. Throughout history
