About this ebook

I am writing to people who do not know we can have a very personal relationship with the living creator, God. He tells us that He wants us to know Him, know His name, experience His presence moment by moment. He wants to prove that He exists in your day-to-day life. My challenge is the same challenge God has offered from the very beginning, the God that is with us, Emanuel. I have taken my faith, which is invisible and intangible, and made it solid and visible so that it is easy to understand. It is extremely practical, no-nonsense, and truth in action.

Dolores Lewis

Clementine Schroeder’s Biography I was born to George and Christine Schattel on June 29, 1937, in a small farmhouse in Beasley, Texas. I grew up with my sister Charlotte who was one of the wonderful helps that I had. From my earliest childhood memories, I was taught about Jesus from my parents and grandparents. I was always in 4-H Club, showing Brahma cattle and riding in barrel races in Youth Rodeo. Since then, my life has been filled with teaching piano, ministering in state and county prisons and nursing homes, and substitute teaching. I thought my life was fulfilled by having three beautiful children, but then I had grandchildren. It was a wonderful extension of my motherhood. It causes me to look forward in my life to having great-grandchildren. The God of my youth has stayed very real to me all these seventy-three years. I consider my life a servant to the Lord and others. Dolores Lewis’ Biography: Dolores Lewis, co-author has the background of Executive Secretary where she spent many years as a Secretary to Dr. Cliff Herrington and Congressman Joe Barton. Mother of three boys and grandmother of two, Ali and Alec.

    An old man, going a lone highway

    Came at the evening, cold and gray,

    To a chasm, vast and deep and wide

    Through which was flowing a sullen tide.

    The old man crossed in the twilight dim—

    That sullen stream had no fears for him;

    But he turned when he reached the other side,

    And built a bridge to span the tide.

    Old man, said a fellow pilgrim near,

    You are wasting strength in building here.

    Your journey will end with the ending day;

    You never again must pass this way.

    You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide,

    Why building you this bridge at the eventide?"

    The builder lifted his old gray head,

    Good friend, in the path I have come," he said,

    There followed after me today

    A youth whose feet must pass this way.

    This chasm that has been naught to me

    To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.

    He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;

    Good friend I am building the bridge for him."

    I once lived in a house that had a very inviting front veranda, white pillars, grey painted floor and a sky blue ceiling. It was surrounded by azalea bushes and outlined with a herringbone pathway made out of old brick. The palm fronds of green and potted ferns, along with a well-traveled porch swing, made this my special place to read and sip my tea. It soon became a great place for conversation when my new neighbor moved in.

    Her name was Carolyn, recently married. Her parents no longer living and there was something especially appealing about her. She would listen intently and seek advice with her struggles and since I was the older one this made for long conversations. I felt at ease, able to look back, pushing away the cobwebs when I had to draw from my memories.

    There was a tall wooden rocking chair along with a beautiful wicker rocker on my porch. Both fitted with patchwork cushions, made from grandma’s fraying quilt. A longer cushion brightened the old porch swing. The fabrics told stories of difficult pioneer farming days, as well as go-to-meetin’ occasions. The colors ranged from drab to joyous.

    Carolyn and I sat there many times talking. Keeping our hands busy making small baby quilts for our local hospital. I soon learned Carolyn’s favorite flavor of tea and often made the ginger cookies we both liked.

    Carolyn was the kind of person that was so easy to be with. We both had questions and we both shared life’s major dilemmas. Memories of incidents long hidden in the secret places of my heart came to me.

    As the years passed Carolyn and her family moved, what seemed like halfway around the globe. We still kept up our conversations about life’s big questions, and our current projects via e-mail.

    I’ll never forget our first serious conversation. It was with heartfelt seriousness and piercing eyes she said let’s talk about God, do you have His presence in your life?

    The following are some of the patchwork chapters of my life that Carolyn and I shared.

    Dear Reader, if you died tonight where would you spend eternity? God wants you to be a part of His family and to know you are forgiven of all that this inherent nature is holding against you. Please know that Jesus has purchased eternity in heaven for you! It’s the best news you will ever hear and it is free! If this is your first prayer, ask Him to prove Himself to you, and He will!

    Dear Jesus, I believe you died and rose again for me. Save my soul and help me live my life!

    His Presence

    I believe it is instinctive to want a sense of knowing that God is in this world. We want a sense of God in our very own world. The Bible makes it plain that we all
