The Curse of the Diamond Hand - Kevin Cantillano

    A Princess and a Key

For over centuries, legends have been told of mythical places, mythical beings, but more importantly, mythical things. The Key of Waters for there has never been such a powerful thing that compares to this.

The one who possesses it could dare call himself, the ruler of all of the kingdoms around the globe. It is extraordinary for such a powerful key to even exist. It holds the power to control all the waters of the globe and the keeper could dare to do with what he pleases.

For every year that passes, many kingdoms have sent their bravest knights to retrieve it because to get to the Key of Waters, you must pass through the cavern of the dragons, where the fiercest dragons lie inside.

The stench inside the caverns has become so foul that it is to be rumor to be none other than the stench of all of the dead knights that have dared to step inside.

However, after so many dead knights, the possibility of the key being grabbed has now looked upon as impossible. It was here that the world would be delivered to one princess, destined to become a great Queen in the faraway kingdom from which she was born in.

She was royalty and had the ability to have anything she wanted. She would receive the best education, but she was discipline because she herself would read as much as she could.

She read from the latest material as a little girl, but she never stopped thinking about the key from the moment she learned about it. At some nights, she alone would climb the stairs to the top of the highest tower of her kingdom and look at the moon.

From the moon, she would imagine the key and of its beauty. She could just imagine how it looks like. She dare imagine it to be made of gold, silver, or even a combination of the two.

Maybe even something more than that and perhaps special markings to show further how special it was and see the difference in the value than that of a normal key. She usually played around on the beautiful fields with the most loyal bodyguards of the kingdom.

She learned to plant and grew a lot of beautiful flowers and a variety of plants. She loved beauty and the key was no exception. She was obsessed for it as little girl and her storytellers always told of the story of the Key of Waters.

It was the same story over and over. She was so ambitious for the Key of Waters that she would have perhaps done anything to have it. The years would pass away in the end and with many knights not returning every year from the cavern.

Her desire was gone as she grew up and she had become a lovely young adult with blonde hair and was an angel to many. She could quickly be recognized anywhere she went. She mostly stayed in the castle as she preferred it to be quite peaceful.

Then the day came for a ceremony ball, she was always full of energy and despite being royalty, she loved to help around with her servants as if they were equals. She had a great relationship with every servant in the castle, from the chefs to the bodyguards all over the castle.

The castle was her own playground as she dared to go through every secret corner and room that she could find. She knew the castle very well and she was a delight to all the servants, but the day preparing for the ball she decided to help the chefs by helping them package some food.

It was here in which she went down to the storage rooms, where she was going to help unpack some of the food that the chefs had planned to cook for the ball. It was there that she found a tiny door.

She opened it and saw it was a secret room that she didn’t know about. She crawled inside the tiny door and it led to a room with scrolls all over the walls. It was like a library to her, she then heard one the bodyguards yell to her,

    Princess, are you there?

    She replied,

    Yes, I’m fine.

    The bodyguard replied,

Well, your mother wants to show you the dress that you are going to wear to the ball.

    She replied,

    Okay, I’ll be right there.

She left the room, but she knew that she was going to want to go back to see the room. She came out and the day went on as normal as it usual went and so did the beautiful ball.

However, during the middle of the night, she sneaked back to the secret room. It was there, she started to read the dozens of scrolls. She wanted to read every one, but that was until she found a specific scroll.

As she read and read, then she couldn’t keep her eyes off it. It was her childhood dream coming now to a possible reality. It was about the Key of Waters and it talked on what she had already known on the cavern and the dragons, but it left a destination and the mention of the one person that knew more on the Key of Waters than anyone else.

An elder that was located deep inside the wilderness that stood far away from the kingdom. She found her childhood dreams coming back to her mind and now those dreams of hers have returned.

    The Elder

The very next morning she showed her father the scroll and the story of how she found the secret room. Her father wasn’t at all impress as he answered,

Enough, you were obsess with this as a young girl and now you have begun again.

    She replied,

You act now like you never wanted it even though from the moment I was born, that tradition to get to the key by sending in our best knights already existed. And you never stopped nor thought of stopping it.

    Her father angrily replied,

You dare answer me in that manner?

    She replied,

You are acting like you never wanted the key. Admit it.

    Her father replied,

    "That’s right, I
