DEDICATION
Nori
is dedicated to Nori’s mother and my wife, Patricia Kenyon Rittenhouse. While Pat will tell you that many, many people have made important contributions to Nori’s adoption and her successes (and many have), Pat was always there teaching, helping, encouraging, nurturing our daughter. Pat never once shirked the responsibility she had assumed. She is a remarkable woman who never seeks recognition and always gives the ultimate credit where it belongs: with God.

REFLECTIONS on NORI
I was first introduced to Nori Rittenhouse when she auditioned to be in a play with InterAct Children’s Theatre for the Deaf. I had worked with deaf actors and with fresh faced kids in the past but something about Nori was different. She seemed quiet and reserved but willing to learn. She was so serious about getting into her character and learning her lines that she was getting frustrated and I was afraid she would quit. At one point, I told her to do what I do
and began acting silly. Her eyes grew wide, her mouth went slack and she signed, Really? Just like that?
and I nodded. A huge grin came over her face and she proceeded to act like the biggest goofball you had ever seen. Her laugh and good spirit was infectious. She was a great actress and we became fast friends. In one play, I spoke the lines that she would sign. I became her voice.
As proud as I was of her acting, my heart swelled
