About this ebook

What fun it is to have grandchildren! And even more fun to remember years later the things they said and did. Mothers and Grandmothers should journal their memories and then perhaps later share them in a book. You and the grandchildren will be glad you did. Its amazing how much you forget. So grab that pencil and begin to write. I hope you have as much fun as I did.

Jane Whitton-Thomas

Jane Thomas and her husband, Stan, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary and fifty years in the ministry on September 1, 2012. They have ministered to four churches, all in southern Indiana. Brownstown, Indiana, is now home to Stan and Jane. Jane was raised in Indianapolis by Christian parents and has two sisters, Nancy and Debbie, and one brother, Jim. Jane and Stan have two sons, James and Larry. On October 15, 2008, Jim, forty years old, passed away due to complications of cancer. Larry and his wife, Margie, live nearby. He is the father of Jane’s twin granddaughters, Emyrald and Teia. Jim left them two grandchildren, Blake and Jenna. Jim's wife, Diana, also lives nearby. Stan often babysat the grandchildren while Jane worked as a secretary. She couldn’t witness the fun times they had together. Stan would take them on church calls, and something always happened. At the end of the day, he would tell Jane what was said or done and she would jot it on a piece of paper, put it in a file, and then dream about writing a book someday. Things like these are quickly forgotten, and she wanted to remember and also to remind the grandchildren of the joy and laughter they gave to her.

    Dedicated to our sons,

James Ray Thomas and Larry Allen Thomas

For without you, this book would not have been possible.

We love you so very, very much!!

Let me tell you about our grandchildren…

Our sons, Jim and Larry, gave us such enjoyment…each day bringing us laughter, tears or just a proud moment.

But Grandchildren…that is definitely a different subject to write about.

Let me begin by saying we never imagined the joy they would bring to our lives. Being a minister, my husband could occasionally watch the grandchildren, and if needed, take them with him while calling, etc. I worked as a secretary and missed out on a lot of the fun. When I came home at the end of the day, I would ask, So, what did they say or do today? He would tell me and I would write down those events or the words saidplace the slips of paper in a file and dream of writing a book someday. I’m sure some may tire of the stories we tell… but I wanted to record some of the events as I remember them …so that, in the years to come, when I am older and much grayer, I shall not forget.

    Shall we begin….

Let me begin withI don’t remember the date, sometime in 1997. Stan took the girls to Bedford Nursing Home to see Edna Zollman. (Member of Medora Christian Church.) She loved the twins and enjoyed their visits and sweet prayers. Well, on the way home, Stan topped to get fuel for the van, leaving the girls in their car seats. When he returned, Emy said, Papaw, Teia said a ‘bad’ word. Stan asked Emy what Teia said. Well, it was A E M R P Q. Stan not knowing what that meant, repeated the question. Emy, that doesn’t spell anything. Now, tell mewhat did Teia say? Emy again spelled out the letters, not making any sense. OK, that’s enough! Teia!what did you say? Teia bowed her head and looked quite bewildered. Looking up, she too began to spell without making words. A Q R P T Teia, stop it! You aren’t spelling anything! Teia looked at her sister in disgust and said

Emy, just forget it! He can’t spell anyway!

    Teia & Emy

It was around May or June of 1998 when little Blake, the twin’s cousin, decided to branch out in his own little world. He loved playing with the telephone, and although the phone was not programmed to 911, he somehow dialed it himself. Emy, Teia, Sandy….naming off all of his favorite people. Jim and Diana realized he was talking to someone. When Diana took the phone, the woman on the other end asked, Is there an emergency? Di explained to the 911 operator that her 2 yr old son had somehow dialed the emergency number. Assuring the operator that all was fine, both hung up the phone. A few minutes later there was a knock at the door…two city policemen! Oh, is that the culprit? they asked. Yes replied Jim…very embarrassed and a little anxious. But all ended well. At least they knew it wouldn’t take long for the police to answer a call of distress…and Blake doesn’t play with the phone anymore!
