About this ebook
Donal Keohane
Donal Keohane has been a practicing artist all his life, having his work displayed in galleries, museums, churches, offices, and private homes. The conviction that creation shows forth the glory of God leads him to base his subject matter on nature in all its diversity. He works in various media, drawing, painting, sculpture, mosaic, and stained glass. His interests are not confined to the visual arts alone; he is also a teacher in the fields of art history, drama, and religious studies. Recently he has concentrated on writing poetry. He holds bachelor’s degrees in education, philosophy, and psychology, as well as a master’s degree in fine arts. Theological and communication studies are also part of his schooling.

recollected times
resurge in tranquility
a new awareness
haiku simple thought
seventeen expressive sounds
so short and so much
slowly descending
Seattle far below me
start of a long voyage
gliding slowly on
houses passing by on shore
folks unknown to me
relaxing drinking
the ocean swells beside us
joy of ocean travel
clouded hills on shore
far across Pacific swell
sailor’s daily view
a plain of cotton
Mount Rainier protrudes above
there when clouds are gone
from Seattle’s port
royal living for a time
thanks to Princess lines
cruises to new lands
their lure for ages call me
life’s wondrous places
waves are floating by
the Princess towers above
Skagway comes in view
timeless wooded isles
fiords meander in between
down in awe I gaze
mists are closing in
raindrops patter zigzag trails
farewell Ketchikan
busy ants they move
unload to loading again
sail anew at five
a fast turn about
people antlike work at dawn
to prepare to sail
fear of terror bombs
shoes and metals put aside
we travel safely
Ketchikan farewell
onward to another port
anew yet the same
waves are ploughed apart
angled lines to shore emerge
for me adventures
crowed noisy bar
glass
