My husband John and I became Christians thirty years ago. Over the years we have progressively learnt how to gain victory over depression, illness and so many other issues of life.

Today we have the privilege of running a Home Fellowship in Bedford (England) called GARDENLAND where our groups are committed to helping oneanother grow in Gods Word, as we study together using The Charis Bible College Correspondence Course.

Gods Fruitful Garden has been written with the vision of inspiring hope to the reader, as I share my testimony along with words of encouragement and some revelations that God has given along the way. My prayer is that you will hear The Fathers heart of love for you personally through these pages.

    Foreword

    John and Carmel are very dear friends whom I’ve had the privilege of knowing for several years. The more I’ve fellowshipped with them, the more I have been edified, instructed, humbled, and helped.

    Carmel has come through depression and long term illness, having learned step by step how to face these issues and overcome day by day by faith in God’s holy Word.

    In this first book of hers, Carmel openly and passionately shares from her heart their story of how God turned things around for them and for their good.

    She encourages and spurs others on to place their trust in Christ, give top priority to the Scriptures as revealed in the Holy Bible and learn the way of the Spirit—in order to enjoy the blessed, victorious and overflowing life that Jesus came to give.

    Introduction

    Life is rarely an easy road to travel, so this book is dedicated to an Awesome God who is the best navigator to travel any road with!

    Psalm 119:105

    Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

    I am thankful to great parents and family, and the many special friends I’ve made along the way. Also for people who have prayed for me, including the Sunday School Teacher I never knew who told my mother that he would pray for me when I was only a child.

    Somehow, I always ‘felt’ the presence of God from my earliest memory but cannot explain why. I would draw ‘sketches’ of the face of Jesus but am not sure who told me about Him. However, as I grew, my image of God became tainted with an unbiblical understanding of what He is really like.

    My name was originally ‘Carmen’, named by my mother after a special friend she made during her time in Malta, while my dad was stationed there during the years he served in the Royal Navy.

    The name is a beautiful name and means ‘Garden’. My mum and I kept in touch with my ‘Aunt’ Carmen in Malta all through my growing up years. After my mother died, I continued to keep communication with my mum’s friend, exchanging letters and gifts each Christmas, even though we had never met.

    When I got to know Jesus later in life, God spoke to me to amplify this lovely name into something that would have significant meaning for the rest of my life. This book explores the wonderful truths He revealed to me as I learnt more about Him whilst exploring why He spoke the name I now use.

    Today, I am married to an enduring man called John, and we have two amazing sons called Peter and Matthew. We are also blessed with a wonderful daughter-in-law (to be) called Georgie who is such a treasure.

    I want to thank the many spiritual mothers and fathers within local church family who have added richness to our spiritual life over the years and from whom John and I have gleaned many great truths.

    Special thanks go to Andrew Wommack Ministries and Charis Bible College for their outstanding teaching from which we have learned so much in recent years, and for always being full of love and support. They are a great blessing to the worldwide Body of Christ.

    I pray you may know more about our wonderful Heavenly Father who loves you and I completely, always, for all time. I hope my story will bless and encourage your heart as I share how God can turn any barren wasteland into a wonderful fruitful garden, preserved and cherished by Him.

    CHAPTER ONE

    False Beliefs

    •   How could God love me?

    I always loved God, even as a child, but never really felt I could truly please Him. I often felt that I was not ‘good enough’ so tried tirelessly to be ‘good’. I remember reading passages in the Old Testament which perplexed me, and yet I understood that God is love (1 John 4:8).

    There were lots of things that didn’t seem to ‘add up’ as I pondered information I was taught during school assemblies and at local Sunday school. I thought I was ‘basically good’ but felt condemned if I slipped up in any way. However, during my growing up years I discovered that I was not so ‘good’ after all!

    As a teenager I believed I had failed God completely so gave up trying. I thought He could not possibly love me anymore. But this was a FALSE BELIEF, an ignorance of the truth that God loves always, at all times.
